  • Used Black Car Suggestions

I recently had a metallic orange car with paint that was almost perfect. I used UP followed by NXT 2.0 and was extremely happy with the results.

Fast forward a little and I have just recently acquired a one year old black car that looks to have been subjected to drive through car washes or just neglect. I tried scratch x on it first, but ended up needing UC to cut through the scratches, swirls, and water spots. So far I have only done a test section. I was planning to use the UC, then UP, and then NXT 2.0 but then I started reading about the new Black Wax. I'm assuming that since I'm already using the UC and UP that an AIO like BW is not the way to go, or is it? Should I stick with my NXT or try BW or UW? I think I'm looking for more of the deep dark look than bright reflections if that makes sense. Bright reflections tend to make the black not look as dark. Similar to the difference of parking in the shade vs. direct sunlight. I like the dark look. Also, I am using the new dual action power system with a corded drill. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do one section at a time. Don't try to do the entire
    car in one

If you're getting good results with UC followed by UP (and you probably are), then you would just want a pure wax to top it with. You're right in thinking Black Wax is probably unnecessary.

NXT 2.0 is great, or you would probably see great results with Ultimate Wax too. For the deep, dark, wet look on a black car, I'd personally recommend M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax as it looks great on black and dark colors. You might realize you need to wax a little more often than if you used UW, but the look is fantastic.

The Black Wax is a mild cleaner/wax... if you have defects to fix up, then the UC is the way to go, esp if your test spots looked good.

          I like NXT
BW is a very mild polish, very mild.
It's a great wax for black due to it's polishing oils, Black loves polish.
Using BW after any paint correction is fine and not overkill at all.
If you like NXT then stick with it. It lasts a long time.
BW acts more like a carnauba wax as for as longevity goes.

Wax is a very personal choice, since you know what NXT does then try out the BW and see how you like it. It's around $12 so it's not an expensive trial.

Here' a few I've done with BW

Now this Nova responded really well to the BW and it polished out WOOL PAD marks! Go figure

I'm a broken record on this, but I'd say go with claying, then with the DA do it right with UC, UP, Wax. If you want the darker look, definitely use Gold Class, and keep it all fresh with GC QD and GC QW.

              Re: Used Black Car Suggestions

I have a jet black car, too. My finish wasn't bad when I bought it, so I skipped the UC step. After claying, I went through the following process using a PC: Swirl X, UP, UW (paste). The finish came out amazing. The Ultimate Paste Wax gives a bright, glossy finish, which was great. But, like you, I was looking for something deeper and blacker, so I put on a coat of Gold Class over the UW. The results are deep, almost liquid black.

Thanks for the replies. I have already clayed. It is definitely going to take at least UC for the corrections. The swirls are terrible and the Scratch X was not aggressive enough. I guess most of my questions were based on the color. I know exactly what worked for me on the Atomic orange, but didn't know if the BW or UW might give me a deeper shine on the black compared to the NXT. I have not tried any of them on the black yet. I definitely plan to stick with the UC and UP, just need to decide the best thing to finish it off with. You have all given me some good info to consider.

This is #7 show car glaze (pure polish) topped with #26 hi tech yellow wax (carnauba, won't last as long as NXT):

Stephan, that TL looks pretty nice and dark. I just see so many black cars that seem to be kinda bright, which still looks nice, just not what I'm after. I may have to try several things before I settle on something, just don't want to end up with it being bright. I know, I'm picky. Lol!

I like dark too. It's a ton of work, and still trying to find the consistency in my work. Got a jug of Syn 2.0 to top with #26 but haven't gone down that road yet. Definitely will before the salty, dirty, somewhat snowy winters here in NJ.

If you can't find 26 cause its in the Professional Line, Carnauba Gold Class is pretty close to, if the same stuff, but in the consumer packaging and readily available just about anywhere. Like Stephen mentioned though, it won't last quite as long as NXT 2.0 or M21 2.0, but the look is the best on a black car if you're after that dark and wet look. IMO

                            Re: Used Black Car Suggestions

If you're regularly using a quik wax, regularly washing, and getting rained on enough, it's totally irrelevant how long a wax is mythically supposed to last based on anecdotal claims. One person's two weeks is another person's six months. Pick the look you want and keep refreshing it with quik product in the same or matching line. So, if for example you DA wax with Gold Class or #26 Yellow Wax, do not use Ultimate Quik Detailer/Quik Wax or NXT Speed Detailer/Spray Wax or even regular Quik Detailer/Quik Wax to detail and refresh - use Gold Class Quick Detailer/Quik Wax instead (and so on for the other lines or cars, always matching your quik product to your DA wax). This way, you are literally re-waxing as often as you like with the same stuff with the same look with far less trouble, and you can go indefinitely like that until the next full DA correction is needed

                              Re: Used Black Car Suggestions

Everything I have read says that GC or carnauba will give the best dark, wet look on black. Something to consider is that this will be my daily driver and I live in Texas, where temps over 100 3 months out of the year and humidity between 80-90% all year, is common. NXT is said to not attract dust like carnauba and that may be something I need to consider. I'm afraid that the surface temps on a black car will cause a carnauba to obsorb the dust and trap it after it cools off causing more headache. This is something I have read about and may or may not be an issue, but its hard to know what info out there is legitimate and what's not, which is why I'm here. I would definitely prefer the look everyone says you get on black with GC or #26, but not at the expense of being more trouble than its worth for a daily driver. I am however not as concerned about how long it lasts as long as its decent, as I like to detail often. Honestly, after just clay, UC, and UP it looks pretty darn good. I just want to take it to that next level, and I need the protection anyways. I was originally just looking at NXT, UW, and BW, but now that people have also recommended GC, and #26, I find it even more difficult to decide what to try.
