Maybe your situation would require a longer working time, slower passes, more or less downward pressure, lower or higher rpms. Or maybe a second or third pass. Wipe clean inspect and go again. Whatever the problem is I hope you can get it resolved and. Achieve the results you are looking for
Lastly. Not to pile on but this forum is full of great people. Great advice and years of experience. Great customer service and a company that is absolute 1st class. The ranting isnt going to gain you much sympathy. If you think Meguiars products arent up to par with your demands then don't purchase them. But if youll seek answers rather than point blame I believe you will be much better served. Again. Good luck. And take a deep breath

I would love to be able to use these products. A quick google search shows results that anyone would love. I just think that I received a bad batch or something as I can't find one negative experience like mine. Meguiars wax has been great for me. Much better durability than every other wax I've used and the finish is the exact same as more expensive products.

On a plus side, one side of the car is almost done.

Used both 3m's on the wool pad, the medium 3m on a cutting pad, then the 3m on a waffle pad. Tossed some of the #7 glaze on just to hide some of the swirls for now. The car is still in a 100 pieces so please overlook that. I have to wait for the chemical guys v36 to come in so I can DA it, then I'll give m205 another try. Uploading a quick photo right now.

    EDIT

It's still swirled, but I'll be able to get this with the DA shortly.

Try to find a piece of a junked car somewhere and create some wet 2000 sanding marks, try the 105 and see what you get.

BTW, how old is the 105 and where did you get it?

^It's already been decided that the m105 officially won't work for this paint.

It's a 3 months old and purchased off ebay from autogeek(?). I'm fairly sure it was autogeek, but that might have been the m205.

It's quite possible you have a bad bottle. If that's the case, Meguiars will look after you. Perhaps you can ship it back to them, so they can determne if it's bad or not. They're usually very good about that sort of thing...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I would have no problem shipping them the bottle. Can anyone verify what the m105 and m205 should feel like in your hand? Is the m105 gritty like a compound?

Michael- If you see this, just shoot me some shipping info.

M105 should not feel very gitty at all due to the nature of the abrasives in it. We doubt that it's a bad batch as we have no other information about a bad batch existing, and with the amount of this product we sell to the body shop industry, we'd know already. Gotta say, we like the idea of you doing a little wet sanding/buffing experiment on another vehicle. If you'd rather send this bottle back we'd be happy to replace it with anything else in our lineup that you'd like. You can ship it to my attention at:

                Meguiar's
                17991 Mitchell South
                Irvine, CA 92679

Obviously I'll need your full name and ship to address included in the packaging, and I'll gladly throw in a little something extra to make up for your postage costs.

Oh, by the way, I'm not ignoring the PM you sent to me, I just wanted to keep this discussion public so that others could learn from it as well.

^ no worries on the message. It's perfectly fine that you are handling it here, you have been very responsive and are handling this situation like a top notch company should.

When I get some free time I'll try this out on another panel. I have a set of old fenders that were replaced. They still have the OEM paint on them. Pictures of my results will come in the next day or so.

                    Re: M105/m205 Useless?

I tried it on a couple different cars/finishes.

On the chempsec clear it does nothing.
Montana clear it wouldn't cut either.
Ford fusion OEM finish it took out a small section of 2k scratches that I put in on the bottom of the rear bumper.
Garbage maaco $400 paint on a fender (Forgot this wasn't oem paint, previous owner) it just marred everywhere. Not worried about this at all though.

Seems like it works well with OEM baked finishes, but nothing else.

Maybe you could have someone take a video of you polishing. That way the Meguiars experts could see your technique. As they say "a picture is worth a thousand words". Just a thought. Maybe you could just send it to Mike if you don't want to post it online. We can all learn something from the experts.

We sell this stuff by the boatload to body shops and they certainly are not working on factory cured paint. In fact, many body shops have thrown 3M out and gone with M105 as their new go-to since it's intro in 2007. We would love to be side by side with you on this because something is just not right here.

Is there any chance that the paint you are buffing a POLY-URETHANE ? As opposed to to the traditional ACRYLIC URETHANE used in automotive refinishing ? I have seen this kind of behavior before when attempting to buff poly-urethane paint . It seems to stay to soft, and the more you buff it, the more scratches you are actually putting in the paint. Also, the hardener for the paint that was used , could be bad. When the hardener goes bad, you will end up with these kind of results.

^The hardener definitely isn't bad. I go straight through the manufacturer out of their labs. It insures the freshest product for me. One of the perks of knowing people throughout the industry I guess.

It just seems like one of those things that doesn't agree too well with my paint. The fact that it cuts the light 2000 acratches out of the ford OEM paint lets me know that it isn't defective. Haven't tested it on DuPont, but chemspec/Montana are "sister" companies with similar formulas. Might be the reason why it's not working too well. Long out of dust/dry times make for a finish that is tough as nails. Perhaps it just doesn't have the bite for it.

Hey there I'm having the exact same problem as the OP.

It's doesn't remove 1500 grit sanding scratches it only gives it shine. I even went up to 3000 grit and with the right reflection you can still see the grooves from the sanding! I've had good experiences in the past with M105 so I've no idea whats going on here.

I'm sanding with the 3M 1500 purple "elastic" sanding sheets with velcro so it's not some crappy sanding paper.

Same thing as OP using rotary buffer with a 3M wool pad, speed setting 2. After about 5 passes in a 2x2 area there is no noticeable difference.

                                Re: M105/m205 Useless?

Sorry for jumping on an old thread, but I hadn't seen this yet somehow.

Now I have been knocked out of detailing recently thanks to a soccer game in where my shin was broken, and haven't been able to do much with my family's cars or do any detailing outside of school. So the bug was eating me alive, I had to do something detailing related! I looked around my room and found this old model VW Beetle GSi, that had some pretty nasty orange peel in the paint.

You can't really see it very well in my cruddy phone camera, but in person its super distorted!

The spoiler was the worst, but the hood was also pretty bad, again not very visible in pictures, but you can sorta make it out.

And here is after hand sanding with a poker chip and some 3M 1500 grit WETORDRY followed up by 3M 2500 WETORDRY sandpaper. Found a really good deal at Wally World, they were practically giving this stuff away. Its really good for headlights and the sort, but this was my first time using it on a "car"

I didn't get a post sanding, blur shot with all the haze, but here is the final result buffed BY HAND with M105 then M205 and of course Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid for LSP

As you can see the M105 and M205 took all of the haze out even by hand, and left it super flat and reflective, I cannot exactly speculate as to the cause of your M105 not functioning properly, but do not give up on this product. I use it when nothing else will work, and have yet to be disappointed.

                                Just my experience,
