Re: Scratch x 2.0 left noticeable hazing and swirls...

I just used some on my black mustang. Product worked fine. Was the car clean before using Scratch 2.0 x?

+1 this is a result of incorrect technique if the diagnosis is right.
Instead of distributing pressure evenly, most pressure was applied at the finger tips in which case, it is user error and not the product.

Fair enough, I didn't even think about finger marks when I was applying it. I think I will take it to the pro before I cause an permanent damage. Hopefully he can fix it otherwise I'm hooped

No it didn't go through the clear coat. Just do a small section at a time. After that polish then wax.

I have to also go along with the 'finger marks'. It may be that there may even be some left over product...kinda hard to really tell from the picture.

You may want to give it another try before you 'take it in.' Follow what others have said, go gentle and small areas at a time.

If you have the right tools, it is actually a pretty simple fix even for a novice. This would include a DA and a light cutting foam pad.
However, if you choose to take it to a detailer, do take care to choose one wisely. If they are going to take a rotary and a wool pad and go to town with it, it will probably take off more than necessary clear coat with the possibility of creating buffer swirls and holograms. The key words you want to hear from the detailer is "test spot with the least aggressive method first."

If I were to tackle this, my first test spot would be with a DA with finishing pads and a light finishing polish like UP/M205.

Here's another idea: instead of applying the scratch x with a microfiber towel why not try it with a soft foam applicator, using very light pressure and trying to evenly distribute pressure across the pad - try and keep your fingers flat and use more of your palm, don't push down with your fingers.

So I am taking the car to a pro tomorrow to have the hood fixed... After looking at my car in the sun more, i noticed that the whole car actually has swirls on it. (In direct sunlight its very noticeable). Are swirl marks unavoidable? I bought the car as a certified pre owned from a dealership so I am assuming the dealer probably made most of those swirls themselves but bad washing techniques.

The swirls aren't noticeable unless looked at in direct light. How much should I expect to pay to have the whole car polished/swirls removed or minimized? or should i just not worry about it?

It is possible you did more to uncover their work than anything else...

Swirl marks are avoidable, but you have to have the extra care in washing, and good towels, mitts, good techniques, etc. And even then, on something like a daily driver, some swirls and water spots will end up showing up.

Not sure about price... esp there. But the better the work, the more it should cost...

As far as worrying about it, thats up to you. You may not want to pay for a show car shine, but I think a good detailer should be able to get 80-90% correction with one cleaning step, and then wax.

This link here is one cleaning step (using a DA Polisher, not a rotary buffer), then wax (actually a milder cleaner/wax), done with the right products/technique:

The real important thing is that the pro doesnt do something to make it worse, which we have seen here all to often, and what the usual concern is.

As mentioned before, if their first step involves a rotary buffer... I would start to be concerned. You may prefer to go and look at the shop, ask what they use, how they use it, watch them do a little, and then can ask here, take the car in next week, etc.
