Did ultimate wash n wax clay bar ultimate polish and two coats of ultimate liquid wax. Car was covered in a garage for 1 week. Impressed with the shine. Can I come back and do a quote of gold class carnuba plus liquid and still keep the protective quality of the sealant? I did research and its inconclusive. Some say the gold class can remove some of the ultimate wax. Really want that carnuba pop. My car is a midnight black jcw Mini Cooper hatch

Re: So did my first full meguiars detail
Sounds like a job well done! I would love to learn some more detailed info on this question as well, I've seen some prominent detailers suggest that adding the layer of carnuba on top of your sealant will give you that 'show car gloss'. I personally don't use that route with my daily driving vehicle or virtually any of my customers as they are all essentially daily drivers as well and all enjoy the finish I provide.
My mild research into this leads me to believe it may not be as much of an issue in present day as modern sealants / synthetic coatings might blend much better with carnuba coatings.
Anybody have better details?Everybody digs a nice clean car.

It's pretty common practice for those who enjoy layering their waxes to put a carnauba wax on top of a sealant.
Go for it!Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

So did a top up of the gccw after letting two coats of ulw cure for a week as I was traveling and car was covered down in an enclosed garage. Gccw really is needed for a black car. Definitely a glossier shine than ulw. I hope the gccw didn't remove any of the ulw bc I really need the protection as my car is parked outside all the time. Oh one thing I must mention is gccw goes on buttery smooth. I used the liquid version and it is so different than how ulw goes on. Could be the fact that I used a terry cloth based applicator.

But all things equal, ULW and Gold Class really do go on differently. Gold Class Liquid is more traditional, a carnauba wax with a few polymers. It's a wax on, haze, then buff off hazed wax. ULW is pure synthetic, with thin film technology, and hydrophobic polymers. It goes on differently, you apply to a panel or 2, wait 5 min., remove the wax. More like a wipe-on, wipe-off product. Allowing it to haze like a "traditional" wax will cause smearing and difficult removal.

Re: So did my first full meguiars detail
I did my jet-black Saab the same way as Messel - ultimate polish, ultimate wax (2 coats). Let that cure, then applied gold class wax to half of the hood so I could check the difference between ultimate and ultimate+carnuba. Took it out in the direct sun today. Big difference. While the ultimate side of the good is brilliant (and amazing looking on its own), the ultimate+carnuba side is deep, rich, almost liquid black.
I know the life on the carnuba is a fraction of the life of the ultimate, but ... thinking it might be worth putting on a coat every so often.

^^ Thanks for that. It's not often you hear of such a dramatic difference in looks.

Re: So did my first full meguiars detail
Yeah I definitely don't think the gccw gonna last as long as the ulw. I don't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me but I swore I saw like thy hot air illusion over the car,s hood after I just waxed it and the car was in the sun. I live in the tropics so it gets pretty hit here. Can see the wax melting off easily here
