  • Ultimate protectant (spray) on headlight lens?

Is it safe to use it on the headlight lens plastic? And I live in a very sunny and hot weather, how frequently should I apply it?

    Thanks

Yes, it is safe to use on new plastic lens. I would not apply it to old, crazed or dry lens. I prefer to use cleaner wax on mine, applied with an MF applicator. Meg's makes a plastic cleaner/polish and protectant that would work great.

Yeah, I think that a wax, or the Headlight Protectant would be better choices.

Thanks for the reply guys. One more question, does it only protects or is it also reconditions? I'm asking this because I consider using einszett vinyl-rubber care instead.

        Thanks.

Let me clarify my earlier post. I was somehow thinking about Ultimate Quick Wax and Ultimate detailer, which are both safe to use on an exterior light lens. I am afraid the Ultimate Protectant would turn the lens milky over time, especially in the hot sun. Your best bet would be to stick with a product that is made for the lens or a cleaner wax. Meg's (red bottle) Cleaner Wax will clean, polish, nourish and protect the plastic lens the same as it will on clearcoat paint. You can pick up a bottle at WalMart for around $6.

I went out on a limb and tested this for you. I was using Ultimate Black (which, is the exact same thing as Ultimate Protectant, in a squeeze bottle instead of the "spray" bottle, and under a different name for consumer purposes).

Let me preface with the fact that I do like Ultimate Protectant/Black. However, putting this on headlights is not the way to go. SO- I stripped my Meg's Headlight Protectant off with a little degreaser, and a clay bar, and rinsed with water, then dried. Put a smallish dab of UB on, and rubbed in. Honestly, it just swirled and swirled, and when I wiped off the excess, like 1994Gen1L posted above me, the lens looked sort of milky. Could of been a placebo effect because UB is a very thick white paste BUT- just use a product dedicated for headlight lens.

I would definitley recommend picking up some Meg's Headlight Protectant! Fantastic product. See my review here: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ght-Protectant

Before picking up the HP, I used Ultimate Wax on my lens and that left them slick, probably protected, and slightly glossy. For touch ups during weekly washings, I'd use Ultimate Quik Wax...

Oh and check out this thread if you don't believe Ultimate Protectant and Black are the same products: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...Ultimate-Black

            Hope all this helps.

            Cheers!

The thing is they can be different materials, so one thing would not be best for all.

The clear plastic like a headlight cover is clear coated, so best to just wax it if it is in good shape. Then if the clear coat is failing, you can use something with some abrasivness to refinish the surface, Then you would need to coat it with something to seal it back up. And it is a hard plastic, that wont absorb a dressing.

The textured black kind of trim is a bit different. There is no coating and it will absorb a dressing to keep it moisturized. But you really cant remove scratches without channging the texture of it.

Some of the smooth rubbery/plastic trim you can use an abrasive product like UC to remove old/dried out material from the surface and resurface it a bit.
