Re: Haze on black paint. Is it too late?

Its really hard to tell in those pics... The areas that look lighter to me seem to be in the branches, which makes it harder.

But if the results are holding, that is good. Did you try going over it again, or is this still the first time?

Re: Haze on black paint. Is it too late?

Yeah it is hard to see. I can see it 'cause I know where it's at. On the first pic it's to the far left of the hood in between the trees. On the second pic it is at the top of the pic on the hood in between the trees. I haven't worked on it again 'cause I couldn't find the Ult Polish anywhere in town so had to order it. Should be here this weekend and depending on our weather I will try it again with the Ult Compound, Ult Polish and wax using the orbital polisher this time. I check it every day a couple of times and it is still holding so encouraged by that. Will let you know.

I have a question. I've been watching some of the Meguiar's videos and if I understood it right, they suggested that if there is oxidation and it is blurry after the Clay Bar, you should use the Deep Crystal paint cleaner before the polish and wax. Should I do that instead of the Ult. Compound or after it or is that necessary? Here is what I plan to do this weekend. Wash, Clay Bar, Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish and Gold Class Paste Wax.

The Deep Crystal Paint cleaner was part of a 3 step system that was introduced a long time ago. I think it cleans the paint but doesn't remove swirls. Ultimate Compound didn't exist back then.

I would stick to the steps you listed of:
          • Wash
          • Clay Bar
          • Ultimate Compound
          • Ultimate Polish
          • GC Paste Wax

There's no need to do both the paint cleaner and Ultimate Compound. Ultimate Compound will remove swirls and clean the paint at the same time.

Are you applying the UC/UP by machine or by hand?

Thanks. I'm new to Meguiar's so have been watching the videos to get up to speed. I am going to apply the UC/UP with an orbital polisher. Hoping it works and gets the oxidation off and hoping it is oxidation.

Uh oh! The white haze is back! It has held for 7 days but came back with a vengeance. I managed to get some pretty good pics. The white spots or flakes are not on the truck. The camera lens was dirty and I didn't realize it so just ignore those. I don't think you'll have any trouble seeing the haze this time. I'm afraid of what you're gonna tell me but I'm still going to do as planned with this weekend, wash, clay bar, ultimate compound, ultimate polish and gold class plus paste wax. It can't hurt and maybe I can maintain for awhile. At any rate, what's your call on the haze?

So, you think it's CC failure?

I think that's CC failure. I've dealt with a car that looks like the last pic where in the paint looks like it has microscratches. I polished it up and it looked good but less than half a year later, the paint literally peeled.

Here's the car I did back in 2004 where it's showing the same type of defect. Look at the trunk of the car.
What do you guys think about this one (Results are in!)

Just checked out the car you did in 2004. Great job and what a transforation! Is this the one that eventually peeled or is this another one? That trunk looks a lot like my hood. I'm still hoping I can get mine worked out without paint. I will be working on it all day tomorrow. Will let ya'll know. If it has to be painted then so be it but I'm going to do everything I can before that to see if it'll work.

It peeled eventually... I was told that the clear was already failing before i even touched it. Therefore your clear is also failing.

Maybe you can extend the life by waxing it like every month.

Yeah, I'm afraid it is. I'm going to try to extend the life for as long as I can. It looked pretty good a week ago when I worked on it and I think by using the machine and all Meguiar's it should look even better. The good thing is, it's only on the hood and I should be able to maintain the rest of the truck.

Ok, I spent most of today not only on the hood but the whole truck. There is no oxidation, dullness, etc. anywhere else on the truck, only on the hood thank goodness. Here's what I did and the results. I washed the truck, Clay Bar, Ult. Compound, Ult. Polish and Gold Class Plus Paste Wax. (2 coats) It's a smooth, glassy, deep, black, beautiful! The hood, it does look better but it looks like the first pics I posted before the haze came back. The plan is to just maintain and keep it looking as good as I can until I have to have it repainted. After I detail it, it is hard to see the blurry areas unless you get in the right light and the white haze didn't come back for 7 days. My question is, do I need to use the Ult. Compound again? I don't want to cause it to be repainted any sooner. I thought maybe the polish and wax would maintain it.

You just have to wait and see. But I would keep the Ultimate Compound for future use, aside from the oxidation or haze, other paint imperfections or other paint "invaders" may come, so I would keep it. But as for using it again soon, you may not need to use it any time soon.
