  • Terrible chrome rims, paint chips, etc... where to start?

So in the interest of time, I'm going to buy a DA buffer, in particular this one: http://www.amazon.com/Griots-Garage-...d=GD1ROQUDGTGO

I have three kids so everything I am trying to do is to get the car protected and do it in the fastest amount of time I can. I know that "perfection takes time" but that's where we have to find a happy medium

Anyhoo... I have a black 2007 Lexus IS350 that has for the last 3 winters, sat outside and gotten the full force of mother nature in the north east. I have paint chips that have hit down to the metal, lots of swirl marks, scratches (that you can put your "fingernail into"), etc. I also have chrome rims that no matter how much I have scrubbed, seem worn down and beaten up. They seem almost black, but they are chrome

I have decided on the NXT 2.0, but since I am getting a buffer I figure I'll need M21 instead (which is the same thing, right?). I'll be getting a bottle of touchup paint for the nicks I see as well; just to protect from rust. However beyond getting M21 I don't know what else I'll need. I don't know which pads (and if you can Amazon link them that would be ideal since I have gift certs there!), which polish, and what type of abrasive.

Any help on this would be grandly appreciated, given my problem areas.

    Thanks again!

    to MOL!

    Why not get the G110v2?

How much time are you willing to spend detailing your car?

You don't have to get M21 because you're going to use your buffer. NXT 2.0 or Ultimate Wax will work with your new dual action polisher. You need the W9207 Foam Finishing Pad for wax application.

I would at least do these steps if you have the time:
    1. Wash the car using a good car soap: Ultimate Wash & Wax or Gold Class Shampoo
    2. Clay: Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    3. Use a mild polish to clean up the paint a little and remove minor defects: Ultimate Polish via W8207 Softbuff 2.0 Polishing Pad with your new D/A buffer.
    4. Wax: Ultimate Wax or NXT 2.0 via W9207 Softbuff 2.0 Finishing Pad with your new D/A buffer.

If you have extra time and if you're still unsatisfied on the amount of defects/swirls removed, you need to use Ultimate Compound via W8207 Softbuff 2.0 Polishing Pad in between steps 2 and 3 above. Then if you do this then you need to switch the foam pad from the W8207 to the W9207 pad when you use Ultimate Polish.

For more information on how to properly use a dual action polisher, you need to read this article:
D/A Buffing 101: An Introduction to the G110v2 (and similar)

You also need to read this article to get yourself acquainted with the proper cycle in the detailing process:
    Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

    Hope this helps!

If you are trying to get it done in the fastest amount of time you might want to look into the mf correction system.

Since you are interested in Amazon...
