  • Which part of your vehicle do you neglect the most?

I am curious to know which part of vehicles get neglected the most. I try not to neglect any part of my vehicle. However, I have a full size truck and I tend to neglect the roof. When I detail I make sure the roof gets a good coat of polish and wax because most likely it won't be touched for a couple weeks

By "Hood" do you mean under the hood?

That's the only part of my vehicles which gets (relatively) neglected.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

On the car, nothing gets neglected but on the pickup, the roof and tailgate seem to be the last things I do if I do them.

You forgot "undercarriage" in your poll. I see plenty of vehicles (daily drivers) that the owner's obviously take great care of the paint, and leather, but look underneath, and it looks like a rust bucket. Here in the north, it is particularly noticeable, perhaps not so much in the south where there are no harsh winter conditions. One of my cars is nearly six years old, a daily driver, and underneath looks practically new. The rotors are painted ((non contact surface), calipers painted, springs/struts painted, etc. etc. and I do that spring and fall, plus all of the other "under" components are rust sprayed yearly.

Definitely the roof on my truck. I always dry that last if anything. Usually don't paste wax it often. I just spray wax it.

Very valid point. Don't you love the guys with trucks who got rusty rear axles that you can clearly see, haha! I squirt the underneath with black paint once a year. My calipers are painted silver at the moment. I think I am going to change to red very soon.

But, is painting really considered detailing?

Under the hood is only done maybe once or twice a year for me...
Exterior every week and interior about once a month.

I would think "detailing" would encompass the entire vehicle, as in paying attention to details. Taking care of the shinny part only, is neglecting some of the most important parts of a vehicle. The thing is anyone can be a "detailer", but not every one can care for a vehicle mechanically. Nice vehicle...the calipers would look very good in red.

Depending on how tall you are I found the easiest thing to to is to buy a small three step "step ladder"( more a step stool really and I picked one up at Costco fairly cheap). It allowed me to reach the roof on my dodge ram no problem, but I am almost 6'.

That is a good question. I believe "detailing" means maintaining what you have, whether thats applying wax to the finish or painting the undercarriage. Taking pride in your vehicle and maintaining the vehicles condition would be "detailing" in my definition.

By the way, which paint do you use in your undercarriage?

I neglect the roof because by the time I am done with the rest of the vehicle I am too lazy to jump into the bed and clean the roof. Maybe I should do this step first.

I realized after posting this poll that I should have included more categories such as wheels, undercarriage, and engine bay. Oh well, this is my first poll in a forum

Well if the engine is included, I'd have to say that as I only clean mine like twice a year or so.

If we are talking surfaces that are painted the same as the car, I'd have to say door jams. I never "officially" wash them, but I always dry them so in effect they are always clean, just not perfectly clean.

Roof on Highlander, just spray wax.
