  • Noob Detailer - Question About Ultimate Compound

Hey guys, noobie here looking for an answer about Ultimate Compound. I just bought a black 2012 mustang gt that had faint scratches around the door scoop area and used ultimate compound with a microfiber pad to try to clean the area up. The scratches were removed and looked fine but when direct sunlight hits it you can tell where I obviously rubbed as compared to the rest of the finish. I tried using Ultimate Polish to try to clear it up but to no avail. The average onlooker wouldn't pay it no mind but it bothers the **** out of me. Did I rub too hard or something or can this issue be fixed? I'd just like to have a perfect even finish that'll turn heads. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Try some Ultimate Compound with a foam pad by hand, and let up on the pressure a little.

A picture would help out a lot imo. So the UC clouded your paint? And you tried UP but it did not clear it up? You may want to try using SwirlX as it has been known to clean up after UC quite well.

      Or,
The UC and UP cleaned the paint really well, and now that spot you just did is actually clearer and glossier than the rest of the car.

Nah, the paint is like a glossy black mirror and in the sunlight you can clearly see where I was rubbing. I'll try and post a pic tomorrow, weather permitting.

So you mean the paint looks better than the rest of the car?

I would tend to agree with RPPM. Go over the area with UC again with a foam pad and use a little less pressure.

Well in that case, try what RPPM said. You may have been too agressive along with the microfiber pad, which is agressive in itself. You may have "hologramed" the paint so to speak. Maybe marred your paint with your fingers.

Actually, that's a pretty good description of what it looks like. I'm gonna run out and grab a foam pad today and use less pressure on the area again and see what happens. I'll update later on today.
