AutoNova, to expand on my e-mail reply- (Stage One Prewash) contains amino functional surfactants; this is defined as a material that can greatly reduce the surface tension of water when used in very low concentrations. The hydrophobic hydrocarbon molecule penetrates and encapsulates the soils to enable their removal.

Its primary use is to avoid surface marring during the surface washing process, not time saving. If by the use of this washing method it reduces / eliminates surface marring it would save rectification polishing time.

Next to my PC and Cyclo this is my favorite detailing tool in my arsenal. The Gilmour and Butchers foam guns ( sold brass adjustment mechanisms) are the only "real, pro" ones though.

Threads with links to where to get them online were mentioned on DC and Autopia. I purchased mine locally at the time and I paid a total of $58 . I understand the price can go as high as the $70 range.

Given that, I still would see it as an essential tool, and one I would see being used more often than a PC( used with every wash religiously), so for a price still under that of a PC I'd definitely encourage anyone to get it. If you develop a good non marring washing technique using this gun, your PC might even start to get lonely sitting on the shelf.

All we need now is a Meguiar's branded foam gun like we have with the PC.

I ordered one, so I am interested in trying it out, as I do have these little scratches always appearing on my Black Grand Prix. Probably the first chance I have to use it would be the following weekend if weather permits. I will check back in though with my thoughts on this products.

When you wash with it, the easiest way I know of that gives the non marring results is to hold the foam gun in one hand and have the mitt on the other, Stream the foam over a section of a panel at a time (always wash car from top to bottom). Try not to cover too much of the panel at once but rather just focus on the small section and the move on gradually ( you can see how long this might take especially if you have a full size sedan) Before moving on to the next section of the panel, rinse you mitt/ dunk in the clean water bucket. Do not hesitate to switch to a new one per area of the car and to always err on the side of caution, switch more often than you might think.

Have fun and be prepared to get some strange looks from neighbors!

My neighbors already are telling me to stop washing the paint off of my car the way it is... I dare not break out the leaf blower to dry it!
