  • flexibility of DA MF system

Here's my question: I just bought a Grigot's 6" buffer without a backing plate or pads. I'll be using it on 2 new cars with good condition paint/clearcoat, an '05 van with OK original paint/clearcoat - detailed last summer by the local car wash, & a 10 yr. old Jeep & pickup truck with original paint/clearcoat that are run thru car washes with nothing else being done to them.

The 10 yr. olds I'll probably work on only once or twice a year, the others probably every couple months or so. I've been thinking of getting the 5" MF backing plate & pads but don't know if the finishing pad would be too much for the new cars' paint; would a foam finishing pad be better in terms of applying a sealant/wax after clay, & would any foam pads work with the MF backing plate? Is that plate designed to work only with the MF pads? Also, I have lots of products I can use, haven't bought the MF correction or finishing polishes yet, nor the W67DA plate. Can my current polishes, waxes, sealants be used? Thanks for any advice you can give. Joe

I'm working by hand using Pinnacle yellow foam & MF applicators. Products include the Deep Crystal system 1-3, M07 & M26, Swirl X, Prima Hydro Seal, Autoglym HD paste, PB polish with carnuba, Wolfgang swirl remover & finishing glaze.

The microfiber finishing disc and D301 Finishing Wax can make for a great one step cleaner wax type application, depending on how bad the defects are and what your expectations are. For even a brand new car it's perfectly fine and definitely not overly aggressive. It's also an incredibly easy way to add some extra clarity and gloss when time is limited.

You can use foam pads with the W67DA backing plate that we recommend with the DA Microfiber Discs, but if you're using our Soft Buff 2.0 pads (like the W8207 and W9207 pads) we recommend switching to the W68DA backing plate instead. If you're a fan of the LC pads then the W67DA works great with those.

Thanks Michael, that's helpful. I'm gonna use the finishing wax & pads on the new cars; maybe I'll post pics if I can figure out how to resize them on my iMac's iPhoto program.
