How about trying the M83 with a polishing pad and then follow that with the M80 with it's own polishing pad.

Better yet, follow the M83/W-8006 with the rotary with the M80/W-8006 on a dual action polisher.

    Then go to wax.

Not to hijack the thread but isn't #83 supposed to be used on a W-7000 (or W-7006)? The Meg's videos demonstrate this. #84 is the only other product recommended on the burgundy cutting pad.

Nothing wrong with #83 on a W-8000 (or W-8006) though... I mean, this combo is pretty common with DA users. Not too sure about rotary users.

tripper_11, maybe we can meet up and exchange ideas sometime.

i believe tho that variable combinations of pads and products are dependent on the degree of agressiveness you nedd. hence you may use 83 with cutting/polishing pad. you may even use 80 on cutting pad too IMHO.

        Hi wetlook,

This is your first post, welcome to Meguiar's Online!

I actually wrote the video script and I'm pretty sure we show M84 with the W-7006 and M83 with the W-8006, but I could be wrong, I'll check though. That said, tinman2 is correct when he states that products and pads can be substituted with one another depending upon how aggressive or non-aggressive you need to be.

Remember, there are a lot of factors that determine the aggressiveness or gentleness of a process,

        Product choice
        Pad choice (material type)
        Machine choice
        Time
        Pressure
        Technique
        Cleanliness
        Ambient temperature

Hi Mike, thanks for the welcome.

Excellent script, I have to say. I learned a lot.

We're both right. I checked the videos again and #83/W-7000 was used to demonstrate the removal of defects/swirls/sanding marks by machine.

#83/W-8000 was shown in restoring gloss and to be used after #84 or #85.

So I guess I should take the product/pad combos highlighted in the video as guidelines on how to move up or down the agressiveness scale with a different product and/or pad combo.

I'll reserve my other questions in another thread.

with regards to foam pads, I've been using Megs for a while... these pads are great.

one time, before I knew better, I used a wool pad together with a DC2 on a Rotary. Very Bad Idea. I ended up with Holograms all over the car..

These days I use a Makita for the serious defects and a PC for pure polishes and glazes. All these with Megs pads.
