We recently bought a 1999 Honda CR-V, which is not only white, but also looks as though it has never had any TLC - maybe a run through the spray wash every week, if that, and not garaged in the S.E. Texas heat, humidity, etc. Add to that the fact that it was towed around the country behind a motorcoach... you get the picture, right? Repainting has been discussed, but is not in the budget until next year. I think I can do a pretty good job of cleaning it up and protecting from further degradation, but don't have a block of time to dedicate to doing it all at once.
So I washed it all up, carefully removing all the Texas mold and gunk from nooks and crannies, removed the spare tire from the back hatch, and clayed that area. Used my 7424, CCS orange pad (old), and UC. Was satisfied with the results, but knew without a doubt that combo wasn't going to work on the front end! Experimented on the hood with same formula, (clay bar first) and the pad was filthy after 2 passes. Stop, wash pad, wait for it to dry... get on the internet and order more. I now can't afford a better camera because I've purchased stock in Meg's and Lake Country Mfg!
(Tried taking pics to post here, but can't get the photo to show what my eyes see - white, remember?)
New weapons came in the mail, so I tried the 7424/M105/CCS orange pad on the same hood section. Paint sucked up the M105 before I could turn the 7424 switch off! Spritzed the area w/ pad lube and managed to get the M105 cleaned up. Looked better but doesn't feel smooth yet. Now what? Have M84, M83, M205, UC, UP in the arsenal. Am thinking about switching to the 9227, using M83 w/ orange CCS pad. Problem, again, is time. I have about one hour each evening to work on it. If I can get a front end section compounded to my satisfaction, should I follow right away with a polish and wax? Or is it okay to leave it sit outside through the humid night and hot, sunny day until I can get back to it?
Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
