  • fine scratches and swirls?

    hey guys,

did the whole 3 step 2 days ago....and so I wanted to add another coat of tech 2.0 to my hood this afternoon.

At first it was cloudy, but then became sunny, weather is around 70 degrees

It had rained and the hood accumulated some dust and other things, so instead of giving it a full car wash, i wet a MF towel and wiped down with some tap water to take away bulk of dust and grime, then all I did was use the quik detailer and wiped down with microfiber (should I have done this as opposed to a real car wash with soap and water? even though i'm only doing one panel)

i applied the tech wax 2.0 under partly cloudy skies...and left on for about 40 minutes. When I wiped down, I noticed that there seems to be some swirls that I don't know if they were there before....

Did I create those swirls when I "washed" the car using the quik detailer and dragged dirt around the hood when I should have used soap and water? (Although I just did the 3 step including tech wax 2.0 JUST 2 DAYS AGO, so I thought I wouldn't have to do another whole car wash, although I did feel my hand across the hood and it wasn't that smooth....which then i used the quick detailer along with clay bar to try to smooth it out)

do you see the small swirls?

but according to this....the quick detailer should not scratch since it is supposed to clean the car without water and soap....it's the "missing link" between the wax and wash....

and i had just washed and did the cleaner, polish and wax JUST 2 DAYS AGO!

although it did rain for last 2 days, and there's a lot of pollen....

i think i realize my mistake...

i thought that i would take off some of the dirt on the hood with a MF towel and water first (before using the quik detailer)....so i think the scratches came from me dragging the wet towel (that's not lubricated like the quik detailer) across the hood....

that's where the small swirls came from....

Well, esp if your swirls are in the direction you wiped the towel...

When you say 3-step, you might have to remind which products you used.

          i used the
          Deep crystal products

          DC1 - paint cleaner
          DC2 - polish

then finished with tech 2.0 sealant

Yeah, the swirls may be from the towel with water being dragged across the hood. It could also be from wiping too hard with the towel. It could also be that you're paint is very soft. It could also be that since DC1 is a very mild cleaner, the swirls were never really removed.

I think it might be a combination of all the above.

I would go ahead with the new Meguiars trio: Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Wax (or you could stick with NXT 2.0).

I was definitely WIPING HARD with the towel, i was trying to get some marks out...and i'm JUST OCD THAT WAY...and mazda I think has thin paint....(can u see the swirl from the pic? It's not "too" bad...but it wasn't there before)

I don't have money to buy new compound and polish, can I simply use the DC 2 POLISH?

and now I ALREADY have 2 coats of tech wax 2.0 on it....

will the DC2 Polish take off all of the wax? (does this mean I have to re-wax again?)
