  • Detail over haul this weekend

I will be detailing my 2010 BLACK Mustang Gt this Friday night and Saturday for my first ever car show entry Sunday.

**this posting will be relatively long so please bare with me.**

My stang' is a bit swirly so that is the major thing I want to attack head on so here is my detailing process played out in my head. And I would like tips hints and critique to know the best way to go about it.

    1. Wash
    2. Clayed ( did it a few weeks ago)
    3. Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner ( because I waxed it recently)
    4. M105 to address swirls (i will be using a DA ford paint is hard I believe that's why I am using 105 because it took forever with UC and I will make sure to prime the pad)
    5. Follow up 105 with color x? I do not have 205 what's my best option?
    6. Hit it with glaze (pro line Meguiars glaze I forgot the product number)
    7. Following it up with yellow wax
    8. Clean up my wheels which is a breeze
    9. Detail plastic trim with back to black just to enrich the sheen
    10. A light detail on the interior

I would love to know any helpful tricks anyone has acquired over the years with any of the steps I listed. And please let me know what you think and I really need to know what to follow up the 105 with.

And should I use the yellow polishing pad or red cutting pad?

And also what speed do I use on the DA in conjunction with 105 I could've sworn I read 3.5 or 4 or is that for going back over it again with out product (just a primed pad) to get rid of the dull cloudiness. The 105 is the big highlight of my detail so I wanna Mae sure its correct. I read a whole bunch of threads on 105 but, now that its getting down to crunch time I'm nervous ill do something wrong.

      1. Good
      2. Good, check if needed again, if not, dont bother.
      3. No need for DC1 when using stronger cleaners after.
      4. Be sure to do small areas at a time, slow arm speed, do a test spot, make sure #105 is what you want. You used UC with the DA?
      5. #205 would be the follow up to #105 if needed.
      6. You can use #7 if wanted.
      7. Wax of your choice, 2 coats is best.
      8-9-10 are fine.

And yellow polishing pad for cleaning steps with DA.

What would be an alternate to 205? Because they don't sell it around hear and yes I used UC with my DA but it could've been technique I was very novice at the time. I just want to be efficient and not do stuff not needed etc.
But on using the paint cleaner shouldn't I use that so ill be working with a clean surface instead of fighting through the wax? Bc I just waxed it a week ago.

The direct alternate to M205 is Ultimate Polish.

            UP or SwirlX.

As mentioned, just be sure to move slow, keeping moving but slow. Have to let the pad have a second to work the paint.

#105/UC is much stronger that the DC Cleaner, wont have any trouble getting through the wax.

I have seen mentioned that fresh wax can make claying difficult, but that is about it.

                Which do you have?

Haven t used mine this year yet, but off hand, I think it was 5,3,5 for the original DA's, (apply cleaner, apply wax, remove wax), but might have changed for the v2 DA.

The V2 I didn't even think about using it to remove wax lol. That might speed up my process. As long as you mean remove it as in after applying. Or no?

Yeah, you can remove wax with a MF bonnet over the cutting pad (polishing pad can usually work ok)

Thanks again for the help everybody. It's great to have such an informative forum with great contributors and so many people wanting to learn and better themselves at the art of detailing. Got all of my stuff ready just gotta wash the pads and towels and get to burning rubber tomorrow.

Re: Detail over haul this weekend

If you used UC at speed 3 to 4 you're selling it short - don't be afraid to run it at speed 5 and even use a fair amount of pressure. Work a small area at a time (no more than about 2' x 2') and move the tool slowly over the paint.

We use nothing but UC for defect correction in our Saturday Classes and we've been able to correct all kinds of problems on a huge variety of paint systems with it. M105 is going to be much more finicky on the DA, just so you know. Yes, it will cut more, but that's because it's the most aggressive product we make! Think about that - do you really need the most aggressive product in our lineup just for swirl removal??

Ok Michael I will do that using UC just use a yellow pad as well? Or use a cutting?
