With headlight restoration, ok i have no real inputs.. i'm kinda useless in that department, so sorry.. But meguiars website has some video tips on headlight restoration. First of, mask all the surrounding areas around the headlight.. maybe you may not need to do any sanding, you can try using the DA polisher to restore your headlights..

As for your dashboard, blue or black, its still nice.. Its an audi!! It will look good!

The other car you have seems to be a w210 e class.. am i right? if so, i assume the e-class is more comfy in terms of ride/handling. Too bad for M-benz, I'd choose the audi. I just like audis very much.. I mean, just look at the new A8..

          hahaha..thx brawl..

well..i've tried plastx with MF app pad a lot of times..no result..use M105 with G110v2 and 7" softbuff 2.0...no result..i want to use the 4" pad..but it's really hard to get it here..

so, my only solution is to sand i guess..which i don't know anything of..

Re: First Full Detail!!!Check it Out!!

Ok Pro01 (aka Audi man), I passed by the shop where i'm having one of our cars refinished, and it just so happened that i saw them restoring headlights (hmm, kinda similar to your case).. Yellowish, blurred headlights from a honda, so i'm guessing its the same material (polycarbonate) as your audi. However, they used a rotary buffer to polish it out.. No sanding done before buffing. Ok so here are the materials used:

            1. Rotary Buffer, a wool cutting pad is used
            2. Power Cut Compound (i'm almost 100% sure)
            3. Dual action cleaner/polish

You can remove your headlights if you prefer, just make sure you mount it properly prior to buffing or again, mask of the surrounding area around the headlights.

Buff the headlights first with Power compound, then proceed to the dual action cleaner/polish. This is the 2nd time i've seen them do that, 1st was for a w210 mercedes benz and then the honda. the results? Satisfactory? Just OK? nope.. The headlights looked very clear, almost like new. Try it out but be careful with the rotary buffer if you plan to use it.

I think you have to use at least the burgundy foam cutting pad to really cut through the discoloration/oxidation of the headlights. The wool pad has the strongest cutting power.

That's what i saw the shop doing, you can further refine those procedures by stepping down to the foam cutting pad, the yellow (softer buffing foam pad) and dual action cleaner/polish, then a coat of wax.

You should also consider the headlight itself too. You can go further by actually removing the lens and cleaning the rear portion of the lens, and also the chromed/reflectorized portion where the bulbs are mounted.. Easier said than done! It can complicate things, and any mistake can be costly!

            Hope this helps,

thx a lot for the info ffboy..
              i'll see whether i can buy a cutting pad..btw, i doon't hav a rotary coz i don't really know how to use it..so i guess i'll stick to G110v2 for now....

              thx a lot!!!

Re: First Full Detail!!!Check it Out!!

You're welcome! OK, another input: The shop actually dismantled the headlight assembly, not just removed it from the car. They actually removed the lens and the refractor.. And yes, if you buy a rotarty, its a step up from the dual action polisher. And yes, you will be drawn to try it on the car itself.

Re: First Full Detail!!!Check it Out!!

Well, yes, disassembling is the easy part. Reassembling could be the difficult part. It may look as if you've reassembled it successfully, but any tiny damage or misalignment of the seals can cause trouble.. you may end up having leaks or moisture in the headlamp assembly. I've seen your ausi pics again.. yep, one light is kinda yellowish. It is frustrating!
