  • 350z paint help

Hi, im new to posting on the forum but have been researching for quite some time now. I recently bought a red 350z and it has moderate swirls and a few light scratches. The main problem is that there are quite a few real small chips. As soon as spring comes along I am planning on doing a full detail.

I have a PC 7424 and various pads (cut, polish, finish). My first question is would it be best to try and apply some touch up paint and clear before I do my detail? This is what I was planning on doing that way I can level off the touch up clear to match the factory paint, but just want to make sure I'm not going to mess anything up.

Also I have Meguiars medium-cut cleaner, deep crystal polish, swirl remover and tech wax 2.0. The more research I do I am leaning towards picking up M105 and M205. Is it worth me picking up M105 instead of using the medium-cut cleaner? If I use the medium-cut cleaner would I be better to use fine-cut cleaner or M205 next.

I would really appreciate any advice from the experts on here. Especially if you have experiance with Nissan Paint. Thanks in advance.

Welcome! I'm pretty sure I can help you out here, considering I also own a 350z. As for the rock chips, you really can't detail them out. Touch up paint is pointless in my eyes, because it seems as if the color never really matches. Hopefully most of your rock chips are on your front bumper or hood like mine, because you can easily get them repainted at a quality shop for $200-300 for the bumper and $300-500 for the hood. I was debating it for a good 6 months, but bit the bullet, and achieved incredible results from it.

I first used m205 on my 350z, but it just didn't cut deep enough to remove all of the swirls, so I went with m105. If you do decide to pick up m105, i'd pick up m205 also and use it after to pick up any light swirls/haze left behind. Don't forget to clay bar also.

As for the wax, tech wax 2.0 isn't a bad choice. I used it frequently until I went on a wax rampage in the search for the perfect wax.

Here is the article I posted on my 350z if you need to reference anything

      Kyle,

I missed your original post, I guess due to the holidays. Your 350z looks crazy wet. Way to go, man. Keep the good work coming.

Thanks! Ill be putting up a few more photos in a month or so when the local 350z club gets back together. The Z is looking a little different now

Looking forward to see more pics.

Meguiar's could use your car in their product catalog.

Sounds good to me! I need to try out the new ultimate wax, but considering the fact that there are at least five or six 3/4th full bottles of different waxes in my garage right now, it might be a while.

Ultimate Wax may actually go nicely with your Z. After you run low on your protection products give it a shot. M205 works great on your paint.

Thanks Kyle I appreciate the pointers. Did you ever find the "perfect wax"? Also in your post you said you only did m105 on certain spots. Do you recommend that or do the entire car in 105 followed by 205?

I would only use m105 on the spots with deeper swirls. As for the wax, I think the Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax is the closest I have come to the perfect wax. Unfortunately, it only lasts about a month
