  • DC1 or SwirlX?

    First off...MY FIRST POST! WOOHOO!

I've been on quite a few forums over the years, and this is definitely one of the most mature ones yet. During my lurking on this forum, the majority of the posts are well written, detailed, and backed by experience. So THANK YOU for all I've learned. But now, I need some more knowledge...

Obviously, like most on this forum, I love the ability to experiment with different combinations of wax/polishes(by hand), but I would very much like something to safely remove old wax. Now I know that this question has been answered before, but it seemed that those threads were old and written prior to the introduction and success of SwirlX. Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner seems to have been discontinued. It can still be found though Meguiars and other sites though.

My first question is whether or not SwirlX can be used as a "cleaner" comparable to DC1 or should I just buy DC1? I've read in other threads where SwirlX was recommended for this purpose. I want something that simply removes the old wax. I don't really need added oils since I'm using #7 topped with #26. I already have a bottle of SwirlX and am curious if I should plop down the few bucks for DC1 if it will be more advantageous to use SwirlX. Is DC1 less "abrasive" than SwirlX? I'm using it on a Black Magic Pearl 2008 GTI in which the paint if in VERY good condition(practically new) with minimal swirl. I'll also be performing the work by hand. That is until I purchase my Meguiars DA polisher

All recommendations and thoughts are welcomed.

swirlX? absolutely. Deep Crystal also contains some abrasives, From what i've seen on other posts DC1 contains diminishing abrasives (meaning it gets finer as it's worked on to the paint) as compared to SMAT or super micro abrasive technology which is newer tech. I personally have never used DC1, just the swirlX and recently ultimate compound.

SwirlX is more than a match for dc1, not just a mere substitute for dc1. Its a very good product

DC1 is much less aggressive than SwirlX. If I'm not mistaken DC1 uses chemical cleaners not abrasives.

SwirlX is a cleaner polish and it uses super micro abrasives (SMAT technology). If you just want to clean the paint surface, remove minor paint defects, restore gloss then it's a great product to go with. It will remove old wax as well.

I don't think you need DC1 if you already have SwirlX. Later, when you get your DA polisher, you can use SwirlX with either polishing or finishing pads, controlling its cut/ gloss.

M07 (as optional product) and M26 work great as follow-up after SwirlX.

Yes, SwirlX would be good. You would apply it with a smooth foam applicator, but you can vary how much 'passion' you apply it with. If you apply it more gently, it will just remove wax/dirt. If you put some more passion into it, it can start to remove some minor swirling.

If you actually wanted to try a new product, Ultimate Polish would be the way to go. It will be milder that SwirlX, and have the polishing oils, etc.

        Yes, DC1 is much milder.

I only use dc01 to refine the finish further. I find it has a very mild cut.

Swirl X is the way to go to start with.

            Re: DC1 or SwirlX?

So DC1 sounds like it will be a good choice for me. I don't need swirl removal but rather a chemical cleaner to just remove wax. And I want something less abrasive than SwirlX. So DC1 seems to fit the bill then! Thank you for all the responses!
