  • Best/safest way to remove wax

My car came with a VPS paint protection film on the front portion of the bonnet, front bumper, mirrors and even the side skirts. Basically all the parts that could be hit by chips. When I wax I am careful to wipe off any excess product that goes in the groove at the edges of the film. There always is a remaining bit of wax which annoys me. Everyone asks me what that line is on the bonnet.

What would be the safest way to get rid of any dry wax stuck the groove and make the line less noticable. I dont want to use something abbrasive that will damage the film or paint. The clear film is this stuff here:

Isopropyl Alcohol or Mineral Spirits and a small brush or Q-Tip works or a commercially available product called Wax Blaster.

A "childs" tooth brush works well also. Reason I say 'childs' is they are much softer than 'adult' brushes, also a lot smaller.

Next time you wax make sure you mask all the film lines, that way you won't have to worry about it again.

Won't the paint not be protected if I cover the line with tape? Over time without any wax the colour of the paint may fade etc.

After you have successfully removed the wax residue (per the suggestions mentioned above), you may want to switch to a different wax, one that will dry clear. From what I have read on this forum, Megs' new Ultimate Wax (liquid version) may be just what you need. Ultimate Quik Wax would also work well for you.

In the meantime, it sounds like it would be best for you to tape the film edge and thus avoid this problem in the future.

True, but you have to pick your poison. Right now, getting wax in the grooves is guaranteed unsightly. Not waxing a small section of paint may or may not prove unsightly in the future. Besides, your hood is going to get dinged up w/ rock chips etc. anyway, fading paint won't be your biggest problem there.
