Does anyone know a safe way to remove touch up paint. There was an 1.5 inch on the hood and I was stupid enough to use touch up paint on it. I totally forgot about waxing when I got it 2 weeks ago.

Is the touch-up paint job good, or are you trying to remove to make it look better?

If it is good, just wax around it.

I did the touch up paint with a pen. and it doesn't look great. I want to know if there is a way to remove it so I can just wax over it.

How do I remove wax? I just washed the car a couple days ago, and was not happy with result. This time I want to clay bar the car. My friend use to used Dawn to strip away the wax.

How long ago did you wax?

Dawn would work, though not really needed. If the wax is a few weeks old, clay and the paint cleaner will remove it just fine.

Maybe 3 days ago. I have read that Dawn will cause damage to the paint, is that true?

Michael Stoops recently posted info about Dawn, right from them, that it is not recommended for car washing. IMO I do not think it will damage it persay but that it does not have the same properties like a quality car wash and the user is more likely to damage the paint i.e. put swirls in it.

Re: Need help with new car

Dawn wont damage the car if used once.... that comes from repeated use over the long term.

But as mentioned, you will lose the lubrication of a good car wash, which can lead to swirls.

You could possibly spray/splash, etc some soapy water with Dawn on the car, just let it sit then rinse off... may break up the wax a little.

So best thing to do is wait? 1-2 months before I should clay and wax it?

I think first time i washed the car we used Ajax liquid dish washer soap. That might of caused the swirls?

Probably dont need that long... a week or two of weather/washing should take the fresh slickness off the wax, if you want to be as gentle as possible.

Soap itself wont cause swirls (unless they were hidden by the dealer, and the soap revealed them), but a good soap will protect the paint better to lessen the risk of swirls.

As far as products, just need the cleaners for the swirls. Interior and tire dressings, etc are up to you, can certainly try Meguiars as you run low. All Purpose Cleaner (APC), or APC+ is always handy to have around.

Just got my 2 buckets and 2 grit guard and the microfiber mitts. Just waiting for a sunny day to start. I also bought The Absorber. Anyone has any experience with them and should I keep it. It was a bit expensive about 11 dollars. I was planning to
                                step
                                1. Wash using 2 bucket with grit guard.
                                2. Dry using absorber then wipe down with cheap microfiber cloth.
                                3. Clay bar whole car.
                                4. Then wax with pad and wipe down with cheap microfiber cloth.

Is everything right? Thanks a lot guys!
