Maybe one day it will "dawn" on him that his car feels like his dishes. At least he gets soft hands though.

If he's looking for ultimate grease removers, steer him to the aisle where they stock the Brillo pads!

Just a quick reminder that we have a very strict rule here on MOL about bashing products, people, companies, etc. There are some disparaging comments directed toward Corvette owners here that are treading on thin ice. Let's please not let this stray in the wrong direction, and let's not stereotype any group here.

Re: Conversation with a co-worker and his vette...

I call it the MP3 syndrome.

More and more people are dumbing down their own senses, accepting lower quality for the sake of being "good enough". I see it all the time and the most amazing aspect of this syndrome is how adamantly they will defend their position.

I call it the MP3 syndrome because of the mentality "I cannot hear the difference" no matter how awful the copy is. Recently I was riding with someone using their iPod through the stereo. Every song was downloaded from KAZAA or some other site, 128kp or lower. The clipping at every base note and just terrible vocal's etc... was hurting my head. I made a comment only to be told: "Oh the stereo in this car isn't that great, that's what you are hearing". Even plugging in my DROID with higher quality files didn't change any opinions, just excused like my phone was a higher quality player or I did something to "tweak" the sound etc...

Same with your friend here. He's already accepted the low quality of his paint care and be damned if anyone can tell him differently. You trying to correct him only causes him to fight is own inner detailer screaming to be let out.

Same as when you visit a friend to see his new "HD" TV only to see they are not even watching an HD channel. Good luck trying to explain this to most.......

Some people are right, no matter how wrong they are.

            Just let it go.

Stoops, your moderation is understandable and appreciated. We need to all be careful to keep this awesome resource healthy. I am in the digital development and advertising business and I can assure all of you that nothing rips apart a forum or blog faster than trash talk.

I will say that, as a vette owner myself, i wasn't offended by the comments and hope no one is specifically reprimanded beyond your needed warning post.

              Thanks again.

There's no accounting for taste or preference. I'd guess most on a detailing Forum are detail-oriented in most aspects of life. When they play dress-up their shoes are probably shined and their tie ends at the middle of their belt rather than two inches long or short. I'd bet most garages are somewhat organized and their lawns are cut neatly. The guy that washes his car with Dawn and thinks it's fine is right... for HIM.

The point is, he has different priorities and perceptions. We see a neglected upscale vehicle that could be primo and he thinks it looks fine. He may well be on a hunting or fishing or investment Forum talking about the nuts that think a car's perfect appearance is the most important thing in the world and how many hours and how much money is spent on keeping them that way. Different strokes...

I've done freebie details on cars like that just because I wanted to see the transformation and test my processes. Then I'd see the car returning to it's previous state over time and have to grit my teeth to hold back the admonishments. Face it, some people don't care and they don't see the same thing through their eyes that we might see. Perspective is all about which rock you happen to be standing on.

I've told him many a time to bring it over and let me detail it for him. I just hate to see such a beautiful car get so neglected is all.

In the profession we are both in there tned to be alot of ego issues and guys hate to admit when they are either wrong or there might be a better way to go something.

They contract with a guy to come wash all of our cars twice a week and I cringe when they do. THey pressure wash the whole line, soap up and brisel brush then do 2 or three cars before dipping it back int he soap then rinse them off all at once with the same chamois. Basically looks like they just smear the leftover dirt around as its all splotchy. I sually end up running mine through the car wash dwon the street. Granted they onoy get 11 bucks to do each car but come-on. Low bid gets the job in government.

But then again I handwax my assigned car too so I am a little more anal, after all its my office and I spend 12 hours a day in it. I like it to be clean, inside and out.
