  • first time using PC

hey guys today was the first time i used my PC and WOW i love that thing.. i did a day worth of work in 2hrs. anyways i used #81 and #26 paste and the results were good. not a big difference since my car is silver. i have some questions. i notice some light swirls under the light and was wondering would #80 fix it for sure? and what type of light should i use to see the scratches better like a reguluar 60watt light bulbs? and one last thing for the #26 i used a terry cloth to apply the wax onto my SONUS bluee pad is that okay??? or should i use a knife and spread it.

Florescent and Halogen lighting are probably the best ways to inspect your work. #80 should be enough to remove swirling, but it really depends on how bad it is. If #80 doesn't work you can use #83 which will most likely correct any swirling issue. Hope this helps.

I'm glad to hear you liked using it a lot. I got mine a week and a half ago and have not had a chance to use it. I'm really hoping that I'll have some free time during the 3 day weekend to do a full detail and use my PC for the first time. We'll have to see how it goes...at least you were happy w/ it

haha koo.. i got my PC in dec but barely got the chance to use it now because of the storm. but yeah you'll love it. just take your time and everything will be alrite. one suggest i got is put the PC on the car before your turn it on or else polish will get all over and also turn it off before you take it off the car suface.

          Hey,

          Just to add....

xjdmb16a2six comment regarding the starting and the stopping of the PC is very important. Besides reducing/eliminating spatter, it also prevents the pads from flying off the backing plate. A pad that is saturated with product combined with the PC's action can cause a pad to fly off if the PC is lifted from the surface while still running.

How long does it usually take to become a film?

That depends on a lot of things.............. The speed of the PC, the pad you are using, the product you are using, how much product you are using, the temperature, the humidity............ and other factors.

                  Hey,

Just to add to Boss' reply,

When it comes to Meguiar's #83, or #80, you need to work the product until only a slight residue remains. Then remove with a MF towel. I have found that with a PC set to speed 5, a W-8006 Polishing Pad and #83, that it will take usually between 3-5 minutes for the product to break down over a 2'x2' area. Again, this depends on the humidity, temperature, and pressure applied to the buffer etc.... So your time may vary somewhat.

                  I hope this helps!

I found this thread very helpful.

Using #83 and #80, and getting your G100/PC to do the work of a rotary.

Hopefully the thread will answer your questions like it did mine.

                    Good luck

I used my PC for the first time today starting with #80. I did not see any difference really from start to finish in one certain area, so I decided to skip the step and move onto waxing. However, after reading Tim's post I think what I did wrong was I did not buff it enough. I guess I was just trying to stay on the safe side and avoid a dry buff. However, tomorrow I'll have to try it out again, and buff for a longer period of time to see how it goes and hopefully by then the results will be different. But the NXT wax still looked awesome!!
