  • DA inbound!! how many pads do i need for

I always like seeing major makeovers on here, my truck is far from needing a major makeover but yes, there are swirls i am sure a picture would help, but i have my DA v2 arriving soon and it comes with a black pad, how many other pads should i get, for now i will be applying wax by hand as i just got a new large can of collinite 476. Granted after the swirls are hopefully removed i know i will have to re wax and perhaps i could top top the collinite with nxt. As for the swirls i wound up with swirl x and M-80. Which one should i use. I will try to get a picture of the swirls later today. And what should i say to the former "body shop guy" who is dead set that the rotary is the only way to do it, he kinda looked down upon the da idea when i mentioned it to him, saying what i was going to do.

    thank you

The more pads the better . Pick up a 6 pack from ADS and get a bunch of polishing pads and 1-2 finishing pads. You want product specific pads and also more than 1 pad per product per car for polishing. The pads will get gunked up even if you clean them on the fly.

Does your body shop guy only use a rotary? Or does he follow up his rotary with a DA? You can (as you know) do a fair amount of correction with a DA and the right product and technique. But it will take a little more time than a rotary.

FZR is spot about regarding the number of pads to get - you really need to get set up with several polishing pads and at least one more finishing pad.

Whether SwirlX or M80 is the right product for your situation is something only the vehicle can answer. Do a test spot with each product, side by side, and evaluate from there. If the swirls won't come out after a three passes with either of them then pick up some Ultimate Compound. In either case, use a fresh polishing pad for each product and run the tool at speed 5.

What to tell the body shop guy? Don't tell him anything - show him the truck when you're done.

For a regular sized car I use about 3 pads with my initial compound/polish and 1 pad with a finishing polish.

For a truck I would imagine probably 5 pads and 2 pads would be my breakdown.

Since you're getting the G110v2, which comes with the W68DA backing plate, get the 7" Soft Buff 2.0 pads. They are designed to work specifically with that backing plate and are machine wash & dry. Good stuff!

so i think i will order a case of "6" softbuff 2.0,which i did not know is the same foam as the 8000, and 2 finishing pads as one is coming with the DA

                what do you think?

                Thanks

If you're getting a 6 pack of pads and already have a finishing pad with the buffer, we would suggest breaking that 6 pack into 4 of the W8207 polishing pads and 2 W9207 finishing pads. That will give you a total of 4 pads for defect removal and 3 for final polish and wax application.

You may only use 3 polishing pads to do the whole truck, but having a 4th in reserve is a good idea. That then leaves you with a couple of finishing pads for final polishing and one more for wax application. Or one finishing pad for the final polish, one for NXT Tech Wax and the last one for M26.

I meant 5 pads for initial polish/compound and 2 pads for final polish.

I personally use Lake Country pads (orange for light cutting and white for final polishing).

got my v2 today it feels very solid, i did not have time to use it yet with swirl x, though i used swirl x by hand on the side of the cab on my ram. i helped a bit but i was wiped after work so tomorrow i plan to use the DA on the same area that i did by hand today, the pic is what i could capture after swirl x b4 wax.
