Well I'm honestly thinking that I'd use this mostly for the winter. Salt/sand laid down on roads ends up all over ones car.
I'd probably mess around with it, and see what I like. I don't think, just from a guessing stand point, that I would like the system that you speak of.

Think of it like having the gun in one hand, and your sponge in the other hand.

Spray a panel, wipe it with sponge. Spray a panel, wipe. Of course flipping sides, rinsing in clean water bucket as needed.

Not critical... but it is fun, and makes the neighbors look at you funny.

Using the foam gun & cannon, and leaf blower to wash/dry the car among buffing, etc, etc,. I've gotten pass that stage with my neighbors LOL.

It just seems, well, wasteful. I dunno.
I think I'll get one, and test out what feels right, and produces the best result

Depending on the car wash (some more, some less is needed), you can take an empty water jug and fill it with 5oz's of car wash, and fill the rest with water (also shake up well). You'll be able to fill the foam gun canister up four times with it.

I use about the same amount of soap (and in theory then) the same amount of water as usual, so not too bad. Probably a little more water in real life.

I use about the same amount of soap (and in theory then) the same amount of water as usual, so not too bad. Probably a little more water in real life.

I think I'll test it out and see. Or I'll always be curious.

I just want to pass on one bit of information about foam that I learned when I was researching the make-up of automatic touchless car wash soaps. I was reading the information provided by the suppliers of the soaps. They mentioned that the foam that you get in the touchless wash was there for appearance reasons, or perception reasons, that it wasn't actually necessary but made the customer feel like he was getting a good wash.

I had always gotten the feeling foam helped things adhere to the vertical surfaces of the vehicle better.

Anyway, I am not commenting either way because I don't know, but this is what one company that made the pretty tricolor foams said.

That is understandable. But obviously a pre-soak on say the front end with bugs, or any general dirt on the car that isn't able to simple hose off (within reason) will benefit from sitting in a solution of water, and chemical. Right?

I would think so. It may be it can be done without foam somehow, but again, I don't have any understanding of this. I was trying to remove a sticker from my husband's car bumper today and used body solvent, which drips down pretty fast. So I tried some old Turtle Wax foam tar remover that I had. It kind of dripped too. But it seemed to work slightly better, but who knows.

I was going to get a Gilmour foam gun but instead I got something like it that precisely mixes a given number of teaspoons, tablespoons, or fluid ounces per gallon of water, but no foam. I haven't used it yet though but I thought it would be useful for washing and other applications.

As far as I can say...

The foam doesnt help 'cleaning' at all, same as Meguiars says with suds in a bucket.

The foam seems to help clinging though, such as the soap and lubrication stay on the surface a few seconds longer. As far as bugs... yeah maybe. Never specifically watched for any change, but would think it can only help.

If the car is well waxed, the foam will still slide off, but would think it would grab on to the bugs.

when i use my gilmour foam gun i feel i use a lot more soap, probably 2-3 times more or so. what i normally do is go around the car with it and then do the foam gun/wash mitt behind it. my problem and reason i use more soap is during the pre-soak i put my thumb over the top whole and it causes a TON of suds

i find the foam gun most useful when detailing a customers car and their neighbors then think im doing something special . i got a lot of people come up and get my card and stuff like that when i use the foam gun, much more than when i dont.

A member here, offered up their foam gun for $30. I bit, and I can't wait to test it out! Unfortunately, I wont know until August or so, when I'm back in the states.
It theoretically can't hurt the washing process, only help it.
