  • Advice on my steps

Hi all, been awhile since i post in this forum. Recently putting what i've learned from here since 3 years back to good use and started a small business. Few days back, i detailed a Porsche Boxster S for 4 days and taking it slow and im wondering if im doing something wrong in my steps towards the polishing part and waxing.

    After wash-clay-wash, steps were:
    UC -DA
    SwirlX - DA
    #83 - DA
    #80 - DA
    DC1 - Hand
    DC2 - Hand
GC liquid wax - 2 coats one after the other
#21(was thinking of either 21 or DC3, but settled with 21)

Is there any unnecessary steps that i did?

Today i have another customer coming in, wash and clayed, and started with UC. Stopped half way and will continue tomorrow morning. I know i'll be following it up with swirlx(a great product btw).. then, i always have this itch to put on #80,DC1,DC2 for that claimed extra step. But, will DC1 be cancelling the polish from swirlx which 'might' or may happen to have better polish then DC2's polish? and #21 on top of GC would be fine right?

TIA everyone. Im open to any suggestions. Will post up pics on the Porsche soon. cheers.

      Re: Advice on my steps

      Yeah, loads of repeated steps.

UC is strongest, so of course only use it if needed. You would want to do a test spot with SwirlX first, see if that is enough, and then move to the stronger product if needed. Depending on the paint, UC may leave a perfect finish, or you may need to go back to something milder like SwirlX or #80. But no need for both usually, and then no need for DC1 unless the paint is really acting strange.

Once a cleaner leaves a perfect surface, you wont need to follow up with any other cleaners. You can move on to a pure polish, like DC2 or #7.

Then once those are on you can wax. Most people who layer waxes would put the synthetic on the bottom, and the canuba on top, but you can certainly play around and see what combination works best for you.

      So:
      1. Wash
      2. Clay
      3. Clean - SwirlX or #80, UC as needed.
      4. Polish - DC2 or #7
      5. Wax
      6. Wax

Hope that helps, or ask some more..

Thanks Murr! that was very helpful! will certainly save some time knowing that i can skip out DC1 and with testing first hand.

about the wax.. im confused that GC liquid wax is a wax/polish, and #21 is categorise as "pure wax". So i had this thought that if the sealant goes first.. then the GC wax especially the polishes inside wont reach the paint?

          Re: Advice on my steps

Well, yeah, kinda.... but if you are already using #80/SwirlX, and DC2/#7, there is already loads of oils getting to the paint.

At that point, you can just worry about how the waxes look and last for you.

aaaah~ yes got it! Thanks a bunch Murr! What's the best combination wax look you've achieved? coat wise etc.? The reason I chose GC is again to achieve that wet look no matter what paint color it is. Just a preference. and chose 21 over DC3 is because I believe there's something special about the professional line more then the consumer product.

              Re: Advice on my steps

Here are a couple of possible sequences for you (after wash & clay):

              1) #83
              2) #80
              3) #21
              4) #21 or GC

There's no real point applying a pure polish like DC2 after #80, as #80 is already rich in polishing oils.

              1) UC (if needed)
              2) SwirlX
              3) DC2 (optional)
              4) M21
              5) M21 or GC

              Good luck!

                Re: Advice on my steps

I tend toward 2 coats of the Nxt 2.0 and #21 2.0 products, since I need the durability.

Did you get the Gold Class 2.0?

Nah~ wished for it. But they don't have it here yet. It's only the GC liquid wax before 2.0. Will try that 2 coats of GC
+ 1 coat of 21 and I'll let you know the outcome.

That GTI looks fantastic, and is a great testimony to the advice given by Mat and Al (nicely done, gentlemen!), and the fact that you don't need all those duplicate steps! Must have been a huge time saver for you, too!!
