From my experience, ScratchX by hand. But you have to apply to small section at a time and work the product thoroughly. You will not remove swirls by merely spreading ScratchX on, say over the hood, and then wiping it off. Removing swirls means removing paint and ScratchX is a very safe and gentle paint cleaner and is only effective at removing scratches if you work the diminishing abrasives against the finish.

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

You could try the cheapie orbital with the ScratchX as it is much more effective at removing below surface defects versus the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner which is a chemical cleaner only. However, be aware that the ScratchX can become gummy and hard to remove when heated so as long as you using a cheapie orbital which tend to be fairly slow, it might work for you.

If you want to use a machine to remove swirls, try MPPC. It can be either used by hand, orbital or PC. MPPC works great with the PC and it should do a good job with the orbital too.

Another option, and one that I really like, is using #80 Speed Glaze, it can be used with the orbital or PC plus it adds polishing oils too, so it can be a great time saver. Also, #80 is easier to find locally, the PBE dealer stocks it whereas they don't stock MPPC.

I wish I would have tried #80 earlier! The PBE dealer said it is one of their most popular products.

Mike, is #80 considered to be more or less aggressive than MPPC?

            Hey,

To locate Meguiar's Professional or Body Shop series of products, you can look in your local Yellow Pages under Paint, Body and Equipment stores. Or, you could phone your local body shop supply store.

What Tim said. MPPC is very difficult to find locally, but most PBE stores will have #80 or can get it for you in 1 or 2 days from their distributors. You could always order MPPC direct from Meguiar's. If you have any NAPA stores in your area they may have the MPPC.
