Re: Do you always wax the roof?

Not to beat a dead horse here but, you’ve got to find a solution for getting the roof done. There are many different types of ladders and scaffolding to choose from or even building something yourself.

I would never skip the roof on my own vehicles and certainly wouldn’t if I was being paid to do someone else’s.

Good to know that your customers knew what they were getting.

I’m sure you’ll find a solution....... Good luck.

When we had our Jeep, I went to Home Depot and bought a platform ladder. It was a great ladder to reach the roof. Being a platform, I found I only had to move it once on each side to get the roof completely done. Great ladder.

        Just my .02 cents.

And if you do the roof first and get it out of the way it won't seem as much of a pain later.

That's my opinion too. It's a pain in the butt on the Vue, especially having to step up and down on the foldable step I have but hey it's gotta be done. I would never wax the rest of the vehicle and skip the roof. Plus, it's a great work out for my legs

Sounds funny, but when I do a truck, I will open the door and put my stepstool between the door and the truck. It gives me a couple of more inches.

Look into getting some of these so you can easily reach the roof

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

              I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
              Remove swirls my friends.

Waxing the roof also helps a ton when drying from a wash. You'll make up the wax time soon enough by saving drying time & frustration after washes.

Grabbed one of those early Friday for 22 bucks. Made a HUGE difference on the SUV I did over the weekend. In addition to the Pain-in-the-neck high roof factor there was a roof rack to work around because nobody could figure out how to get it off.

On pickup trucks I do a good bit of the roof standing in the bed.

Roof Racks are a huge pain but removing them will put you over the edge. 99% of them are for show and once you discover how to remove them you always get 1 screw or bolt that will not come loose or the well nuts spin in the hole and only option is to drop the headliner.

I mask very carefully and drop down to my 3" rotary and go inch by inch.
I do the roof first to get it over with

one thing I found that works great for lower vehicles is to use my wife's adj. step trainer it's adj from 2 to 6 inches and is very stable. those xtra inches help dial in a very comfortable work height.

Sounds like the OP is refering to something a bit higher than a regular mini-van.

On a side note, I hate visiting Jersey, couldnt get a Lowes open Sunday. Hopefully there is still a sale Monday.
