  • Swirl X or M205

so my DA polisher is comming 2morrow. With a set of pads. Working on new vehicals. Is swirlX the same as M205? or is 205 a lil less aggressive? Can i use M205 regulary?

Not sure if they are the same or not, but I'd definitely recommend M205. You can use it alot since it has a cut rating of 4/12 and it's a remarkable product. Brings out more clarity, depth, and shine than any other product I've used. Has decent cut as well if you use it with cutting or polishing pad.

Thanks Be sure to post pics of your experiences and don't get frustrated - it takes a little practice and experimentation to get the technique down, but once you do, you'll be breaking into your neighbors garages to polish their cars LOL

Try both on the trunk or some other surface where you can do a good 50/50 test. Look at each side, see which one looks better, and use that one

You may need to try ultimate compound or M105 if the scratches are that bad since M205 and swirlx are more for milder correction.

If you are doing light polishing, then use the M205. For oxidation or heavier scratches, you may need M105 if M205 doesn't cut it.

I learned on my '88 Mustang with less than perfect paint:

The same principles I mention in the writeup for M83 apply to M205 as well or any other polish or compound for that matter.

                  Good luck!

SwirlX is more aggressive than M205.

If that's the case then M205 may prove to be too mild for your situation. SwirlX and Ultimate Compound may serve you better on this vehicle, but the paint itself (how hard or soft, etc) is going to be the ultimate decider. But from this description, Ultimate Compound would seem to be the better choice.

It means on a scale of 1 to 12, with 12 being the most aggressive, M205 is a 4

Interesting. Is this an "objective" scale, such that another polish manufacturer would have a product that is also a 4? Or is this a scale amongst Meguiar's products like the chart that has been posted here and there?

What is the cut rate of Ultimate Compound?

It is relative to other Meguiar's products. Check out this link:http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...threadid=10662

While the chart is a little dated and doesn't list some of Meg's newer products like UC, between it and Aggressiveness Order for New Consumer Products - This will surprise you!, you should be able to get some idea of where UC would fall.
