    Re: I am too slow....

Who cares?! The truck looks dyno mite!!! If you're like me, it's a labor of love.

I spent six hours on my butt yesterday watching college football, and aside from another win, I've nothing to show for it.

This makes a lot of sense for me! I know I had gone forever without washing my car in the summer and for my birthday I just told my family eating dinner would be fine but all day I just wanted to work on my car. It ended taking me way way longer than I expected and I didnt get to do as much.

I can honestly spend just as much time on my civic, Nick! I think part of it may be its our own car. Then for me, the other part is Im just a slow worker. I feel when I speed up I tend to feel rushed and move to fast, or start to miss things and barely catch that I forgot it.

I'm right with ya Tuck, on my own car. Every nut and bolt, nook and cranny. Inside the engine bay alone can be more than an hour. Enjoy the cleanliness, she looks great. Now if it were a paying job we have to move faster. No one will pay us what it's worth for that kind of detail. Well, I say no one. At least none of my customers I have yet.

I started on mine yesterday about 9 and finished at 3:30 not busting my butt. I washed, dried, clayed, colorX paint, DC 3 on wheels, did the glass, DC 3 on chrome, and dressed all trim including the tonneau. I was tired and ready to be done. This morning I qd'd so all told thats almost 7 hours I guess. No interior or under hood work.

Nick, I disagree with everyone else. YOU'RE SLOW! Good Lord, I've personally seen my 87 year old grandmother do a full correction detail on a 4 door Sierra in the time it took you to wash and vacuum your truck. Bless her heart, she passed away the following morning. I think the Sierra may have been just too much for her.

                Re: I am too slow....

It takes me at least 4hours to do full interior work (steam and/or extracting) and another 6hours min to do exterior. Can speed it up, if we have helpers or I might just need to even more fine tune my process.

hehehe, yea I too think your a bit too slow on only maintaining it..

takes me around 3 hours just to do your steps on a sedan, plus it includes UQW and dressing the interior as well :]

I might have thought you were taking too long time cleaning and dressing the engine bay?

On second thought, you ARE slow. I've heard cement hardens faster.

Okay, Nick. We'll have to have a detailing race. I guarantee I'm SLOWER than you!

I detailed 3 cars yesterday. The weather was fantastic.

I started around 9am since it was about 45 F in the am and finished around 4pm. Of course, I had distractions (making a pizza, getting the camera out, etc. I waxed one and just washed the other too. I always find if I do the tires first it takes much longer since I usually toss the wash and make a clean batch for the paint.

                          Re: I am too slow....

Don't worry Tuck, It probably would take me that long if not longer to bring your truck back up to standards!

When I do my cars I tend to take my time, why? Because detailing to me is just that DETAILING as in paying attention to detail (it's also an awsome stress relief for me....as I have an infinite amount of stress!). I feel if it takes you 1.5 minutes to due a full paint correction and full interior detail then you are gonna miss something and the quality of your detail will be subpar.
Due to my way of thinking, I'm not sure if I could start a detailing biz beyond my friends and family. If you want your car shined in 1.5 minutes....Cloisters is just up the road, if you want your car looking better then when it did when you drove it off the dealers lot....and can part with it for 1 or 2 days, bring it to me for the Underdawg treatment!!

So no Tuck, you are definately not alone!

Your truck looks great Tuck. I have a feeling my days of getting my truck looking like that are numbered this fall and it's going to be a long winter. It's been a couple of months since I washed / detailed my Colorado but 6 hours seems a little long. Slow doesn't bother me. Detailing our vehicles is my version of R&R, everyone else thinks I'm nuts. My wife has given me some interesting comments on my truck too - especially after it covered with mud in mid October working on a friend's farm. Luckily I had a chance to wash it the following weekend.

I had plans to wash, clay, polish, wax and then vac, clean, and dress the interior over the weekend until life threw me a curveball on thursday - a trip to doctor who sent me to the ER where it was decided I was having gallbladder surgery on friday afternoon. I even have a new Matco seat style creeper sitting on my desk at work that came in on Thursday while I was at the hospital. Missing two perfect 70 degree detailing days in November near Chicago is depressing. Going to miss this weekend's 60s too.
