Is there any way to restore the black trim on the right side? Trim is plastic and it's been there probably for nearly a year now but never had the urge to fix it until i found this site
Since it's smooth, personally I'd try Ultimate Compound. Check this out. This was from my uncle's Explorer, and I used UC to fix it.

What you're seeing is pretty much "oxidized plastic". You need to remove that oxidation in order for it to stay shiny; covering it with a dressing is more or less a temporary fix. But, keep in mind that not every type of plastic will take to the same "fix"; but since your plastic is smooth, I would go ahead and try Ultimate Compound.
