    Re: Mf! (microfiber that is....)

Well, the Water Magnet (waffle weave style) towel is for drying only.

The Supreme Shine (a towel with nap) is for removing products mainly.

They dont tend to work as well at the other jobs.

      Re: Mf! (microfiber that is....)

I use atleast 4 every time I wash...2 water magnets for drying, then 2 SS for QD'ing. If I use the leaf blower to blow most of the water off then I just use 2 SS for QDing.

As others said you will use many for claying polishing etc... I like to have enough towels that when I wash I have a good sized load. If you wanna go that route you might want to add a few more towels to that first order.

        A few things.

It was said earlier for you to use "regular" detergent, which I don't agree with. Most guys I know ONLY use LIQUID detergent and most prefer non-scented detergents.

DO NOT use softner or softening sheets when drying.

As for the amount of MFs. For me it varies, but I use a lot. Generally more than 10 per wash. Probably in the neighborhood of 15.

I have high quality Eurow Shag MF for my paint, cheapie Costco/Target type for my wheels and exhaust pipes and two water magnets; one for paint, one for door jams. I also prefer not to use MF on glass, just never works out for me.

I don't use the scented stuff anyway, so i'm in luck there!

And good point, it didn't occure to me to use a cheap-o mf for the spots there are notorious for still haveing some dirt on them!

You may even prefer terry in the real dirty areas.

What would be the advantage to that?

Can be even cheaper, and it can have a bit more bite to grab grease, etc.

I like and old terry for blotting the tires after putting a tire shine on them.

Always have spares for any specific type since they can fall on the ground, etc.

Like using two types of MFs starting with mildly ribbed to conclude with flat ones.
It works well on window cleaning and wax removal.

                          Re: Mf! (microfiber that is....)

Are micro fiber towels when used to dry, more or less like a chamois?
What are the positives to using a MF towel over a chamois?
Do they both act the same when drying?

I can ask questions all day about seemingly nothing haha.

Thanks again guys for helping out!

since i live in an apt, and cant do bucket washing. and no one broke it down like this heres my tired rant

                            1-2 wash
                            2 dry
                            1 glass
                            1 dressing outside
1 sponge thing for tires(not mf)
                            1 dust/ lint /hair inside
                            1 applying dressing inside
^this is my every 1-3 week cleaning routine.
couple extra in case you drop one.
                            Subtotal :8

                            1 plastic polish
                            2 claybar

                            polish or wax per step.
                            1 application
2-3 for buffing(depends how lazy i get with how much i use)
                            Subtotal; 5-10

                            Grand total
                            13-22

i don't like the size of drying towels, and prefer to wring out 2 smaller mf(some people on here might cringe at that). never used a chamois. If i could do it again i would just buy a case from ads, instead of all the gray target ones i have accumulated.

my collection as you can never have too many until you run out of shelf/box space.
30-40 gray vroom -general use/ paint
                            7-10 cheapo blue -glass/plastic/dressing
                            2 vroom drying.
2 sonus green -paint hand polishing
                            10-20 terry

The size of the vehicle also enters into how many you use as well as the product you are using. I need almost double the amount of towel on a Suburban or Honda Odyssey as a Ford Focus hatchback.

Great break down. I'm sure with practice i can fine tune the amount i need.
Since they are sold in 3 pack, generally i'd need about 15 microfiber towels, and the miscleaneous other terry towels and other cheapo mf
