  • Mf! (microfiber that is....)

Just as a generalization, how many MF towels should one use per detail?
Everyone says to make sure you have plenty. But just how many, is plenty?

    Ehhh...

Have to have 1 per step. I would say 2 to feel comfortable.

So say (assuming Meguiars products) at least 2 Water Magnets for drying. I pull out 3 usually.

Then 2 Supreme Shines each for removing cleaner, polish, or wax (depending on what steps you choose to do). The one SS with the clay is good for that step.

I find I can clean interior glass with one cheaper (Vroom or GE) MF, but like to have 2 for applying and removing any dressings. And then another one if I were to be doing deeper cleaning with APC first.

Probably will want some cheap terry towels for wiping your engine, door jambs/seals, and wiping any tire dressing.

    Or more...

      Re: Mf!

I usually go through around 10 good microfibers and 4 cheaper ones per detail. This is just a average. Some times depending on what you are doing I use more. I also use about 4 terry cloth towels per detail.
      quality creates its own demand

That's just about what i was expecting, and assuming.
Are there any ticks with a MF? Something that may make them work better, last longer, anything like that?
Is there a special washing technique to keep them soft?

A bunch of Ultimate Wipes (maybe 6), a few cheapo MF's (2-3), a water magnet, an unnamed plush drying towel and 2-3 Supreme Shine MF's. Maybe a couple of rags for polishing neglected metal or clean up.

Keep in mind that is probably overboard, but you never know what you are going to need. Once you have a set routine for your vehicle deciding which cloths you will need isn't as difficult, though when working on other people's vehicles it can be easy to over/under estimate what exactly you will need. Play it safe and bring more than necessary. For my own car I know pretty much what I'm going to end up using because it is well maintained and I've dialed in my process. I wash it once a week and keep a constant layer of wax/sealant on it, QD every now and then. That many cloths is almost never necessary.

Well when i get my car in April i'm going to baby the hell out of the new black paint. So i'm sure i'll be around 10.

Is it a good or bad thing that i was just kind of getting ideas on how to keep my car clean, and now i spend most of my day thinking about this stuff haha.
                  I'm hooked.

Generally you just wash MF products together wit hregular detergent. Some white vinegar once in a while seems to help keep them soft.

A good quality one should stay pretty decent.

Thank you. Say i have some just for drying, some just for removal of polish, wax, etc. Should they be washed and kept seperate or anything such as that?

                        Re: Mf!

No, as long as it is MF, it seems ok to mix.

I gues sif you had some from some really greasy job or something you might do them seperate, but thats with anything.

Hmm, is it a good idea to keep a certain MF towel as a dryer, one for polish, one for wax, and so forth?
Or are they pretty much a super do all towel? haha.

How many you use really depends on what your doing to the vehicle. If I'm doing paint correction I might go over one area several time and need to remove semi-damp product. This is going to cake up a MF towel pretty quick. If I'm applying a LSP such as Megs #16 I could do an entire vehicle with one towel as it's put on very thin and dries quickly. I might polish a vehicle, spray it down with Last Touch and then apply a LSP. This might require 6-7 towels. There is no set amount you'd use... you'd base it on what your doing to the vehicle.

I find folding a larger towel into 1/4s is the best way to use it. This gives you plenty of cushion and you simply keep folding the towel onto a new side after some use.
