Re: Rain X Windshield ??
The life of Rain-X also depends on the material of your wiper blades. Many newer Japanese wiper blades are made from silicon rubber. This technology was introduced by Piaa. Every time the blade sweeps across the windshield, it leavea a film of silicon on the windshield, treating it like Rain-X on the windshield. This prolongs the life of Rain-X on the windshield.

Re: Rain X Windshield ??
I, too, was discontent with the result provided by Rain-X. Actually, I loved the beading actions of Rain-X on windshield, but I didn't it short-service life.
After several trial and errors within a few years time frame, I have discovered a method that allows Rain-X to last up to one year on a windshield with only one application. Basically, I simply clay the windshield with an ordinary consumer grade clay bar. Then I dry clean the windshield of any film and clay lubricant using water. Then I proced to cleaning the entire windshield a couple of times using ALCOHOL and some cotton puffs. Now that the windshield is COMPLETELY free of bonded contaminant and clay residue, apply Rain-X using a cotton puff. Apply two applications liberally. Allow the Rain-X to settle on the windshield.
Because Rain-X contains a high concentration of alchol, it dries very quickly. Applying it with a cotton puff allows for longer working time.
Like waxes, Rain-X bonds best on a completely clean surface. Rain-X itself contains a high mixture of alcohol for cleaning action. If you pre-clean the windshield a couple of times using alcohol, it allows Rain-X to bond more effectively.

Re: Rain X Windshield ??
Are we talking about the 2 in 1 stuff? Seems like you're talking about the regular RainX...
Actually, I need some troubleshooting about the windshield, so I might as well post this here.I couldn't find an answer to that one.
Let me explain. When I first started to detail my car, I firstly applied a coat of Nxt Tech Wax 2 on the windshield. No problem with that. Except IT SEEMS but I'm not sure, it "revealed" tons of little impacts on it. When I get the sun straight on it, it just looks like the night sky in the desert.
So I'm looking for some kind of solution to this. No clue if these impacts were showing up more or less BEFORE I started detailing the car, I honestly have no clue but I tend to think so. I've noticed a few long scratches on the windshield as well.
So is there any method I could use to at least attenuate a little these "stars and scratches" before applying RainX?
I remind you that my usual routine is to clean the WS with Megs Nxt glass cleaner. When I get around UQD and UQW the car, I used to UQW the windshield as well. Since I applied RainX, I dont UQW the WS anymore.
So to resume all of this I have things I need to get cleared out :
1 - How do I combine all these products to get the best and most efficient result? I'm OK to try the 2 in 1 stuff again, even if I wasn't really convinced for starters. After spraying the windshield with it and trying to wipe it off with a UShine MF, it seemed like the mF was just "attached" to the WS, it was very hard to wipe anything off.
2 - How can I prepare the windshield for the next application of the regular RainX? Do I need to scrub everything down beforehand somehow? Or can I just reapply a coat, even if I previouly washed it with Nxt glass cleaner?
3 - Is there anything i can do about thoses very little impacts that constelate the windshield? Maybe some undercoart to apply before RainX?
Sorry this was a long answer, but I'd really love to get things done as far as the windshield's concerned...

Re: Rain X Windshield ??
I applied with the glove box sheet applicators. I would use them in a circular motion on the exterier of the window. Then i would take a soft usually torn up t-shirt with no seams and lightly wipe most off. I'd then take a soft paper towel, with no logos or weird embrodery (usualy the cheap towels work best for this, actually) and i'd "buff" the window clear. You're set, in very rainy weather for a couple weeks.
But i do it weekly.
If you do this, you'll never not use the product again.
I promise this.

And what's your method to apply it? Paper cloth? MF?

Re: Rain X Windshield ??
It's great. I used it once two years ago and now once a week i re-apply it, to all windows.
It absolutely blew me away.
There isn't a con, about 5 minutes more time spent is all really. And a bit more money, (few bucks?!)

Yeah.
Say I clay/clean/RainX the window every two months.
Then, for the in between washes every 2 weeks, I just wash the car, and then UQD or UQW everything.

Do get a little smearing at times from that, but nothing bad.

I have tried the RainX 2 in 1, and it seemed for me to need applied the same way. Which to me, kind of defeats the purpose. If I have to do a bit of a process, may as well do the full treatment.
Thanks for providing the steps on how you apply it, I'll give it a try this weekend with daylight, I tried last night just in the rear side window (you know, test spot first) and apparently it worked, the surface feels soooo smooth and clearer than ever, let's see how it goes for the rest of the windows and the windshield. I'm looking forward to it, because Seattle area is back to it's normal rainy weather

Probably not, but you can do a small spot and test it out. Shouldn't be mixing systems since they can contain lots of variables - they may play nice together or differ vastly.
