I just waxed my aluminum rim's with Meg's Cleaner Wax and the terry cloth turned almost black..And when I was wiping the film that was there disappeared...Is the clear coat gone??
No, the clear isn't gone, I'd just say they were uncoated. Think clearcoat versus single stage. Your wheels would be "single stage". Make sense? You probably want to try Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish. A truly fabulous product, IMO. Info from Autogeek:
Give your car’s chrome and un-coated aluminum a mirror-like shine with Hot Rims® Mag and Aluminum Polish. Created for superior results, Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish is the safe, fast way to remove oxidation, tarnishes and stains for a brilliant finish. Tired of using hazardous chemicals or foul-smelling products that are hard to apply? Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish has a hot, cinnamon scent and features a wide-mouth tin for easy access by hand or polishing tool!
Meguiars Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish polishes chrome and aluminum rims to a dazzling shine without harsh chemicals or chemical odors. This specially formulated metal polish tackles the worst stains and tarnish without damaging the wheel finish.
Meguiars guarantees their Mag & Aluminum Polish will produce a better, clearer finish or they will give you your money back! They are that confident that this is the finest metal polish you’ve ever used.
Meguiars Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish can be used on uncoated metals and chrome. It creates a mirror-like shine on uncoated aluminum, brass, copper, and more.
The wide-mouth tin allows easy access for polishing tools and applicators. Use a microfiber or foam applicator if you don’t have a polishing tool. Rub the surface gently until a black residue appears. If no residue appears, the metal is coated and you should stop polishing. If a residue does appear, wipe it off with a soft microfiber towel.
Meguiars Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish has a pleasant cinnamon scent and it goes on easily as a no-drip paste.
Note: Not for use on gold-plated, anodized, painted, or clear coated wheels.
Bring out a brilliant, mirror-like shine on aluminum, chrome, and uncoated metal wheels with Meguiars Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish.

If there are coated,And I do mean if..Will this ruin them in any way??
Well, you said you got a black residue with Cleaner Wax, which was my first indication that they were uncoated. If you try the Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish and you for some reason don't get a black residue, then you know they're coated. But to answer your question, no, it won't hurt them.

Thank's that was my biggest concern..I have heard that Hot Rim's Polish is Great stuff..Thnk's for answering my ?...
Just to clarify, Hot Rims M&A is not for painted/clear coated surfaces. So if you were to use it in an out of the way spot, and not get black (other than dirty gray) on your cloth, then do stop using it right away.
If it is bare metal, and you use soemthing like M&A, your cloth should be black black right away.
I dont know if I have seen a pic on here of a cloth after polishing bare metal? Maybe one of Joe's airplane thread, or Tim's boat detail? But its like jet black soot from bare metal, even if the metal is in good shape.
OK, did a little internet searching and couldn't find a really great article to share, but what I understand is this: the black "soot" is aluminum oxide. I think seeing this would be like seeing dead paint on your applicator pad if you were working on single stage paint, except in this case, the black is "dead aluminum". I know that sounds awful, but that's the only way I know how to explain it.

Thanks CieraSL for the info..I might try some of the M&A polish and see what that does..And I should have been more precise it was more like a gray than black..If that helps..
