    Re: I'm completely baffled...

    Ciera-

I have exactly the same issue with the NXT 2.0--it is the only product, Mequiars or otherwise, and it always streaks on the hood only. I have
attributed this to a few possible things. I do have to start the engine to back the car out of the garage, so there might be a tiny bit of residual warmth. And the hood on my car is aluminum, which the other panels are not. The old wax and the paint may be exposed to more heat than anywhere else on the car, during driving, and I imagine the aluminum would transmit the heat to the paint and wax more readily than a steel hood. The other thing about the hood is that it is exposed to ambient air, during waxing, on the underside, which none of the other panels are. (The fenders have extremely thick acoustical liners.) I don't know if this is significant.

To deal with the streaking, I wipe the dried product off, wait a few minutes and then do another wipe, slowly. This solves the "special hood" problem. But that second wipe requires a lot of pressure.

I think you are over thinking this Ciera. IIRC you said the hood was always the last part you waxed. So I would agree with one of the previous posters and say just give it a little more time to dry, even if it does pass the swipe test. Or start with the hood and work around the car when waxing.

To reduce streaking, use a brand new pad on the hood and try using an ultra-high premium microfiber towel. Maybethe Ultimate Wipe, or even something like the Cobra or Adams MF.

Do you think I should try the Auto Magic wax or one of my Meg's waxes? I assume one of my Meg's waxes since that is what's giving me the trouble.

But then, why did the other waxes work? There was quite an assortment there.
I don't think there is anything that you are doing wrong. It is odd how every other part of the car is fine, but not the hood. The paint all over the car with the exception of the bumper,is the same age and as far as you know, the hood was never repainted.Only difference with the hood,is being exposed to more heat than the rest.

Does it streak on every part of the hood or just in a certain part?

Does that help you with your problem?

What you are doing is successfully appling and removing wax on your car,but for some crazy reason, you change your technique for the hood and it smears. And it only happens with Meguiar's?

                          Re: I'm completely baffled...

I noticed this too on my black ranger sometimes with NXT 2.0 (only on the hood). I did not notice it at all on a maroon mazda 3 that I cleaned/waxed with NXT, or a silver suzuki swift.

Tuck, thanks for bringing that post up again. I'll have to slow down and see if it still does it

Technique still seems to be the same as on the rest of the car. Perhaps I will slow down next time and see if that helps.

                              Re: I'm completely baffled...

While applying the last coat of wax to this car today I kept your post in mind, I did half the hood by hand and the other half I stuck a black finishing pad on the D.A amd applied a whisper thin coat. The hand applied coat was a little thicker.

I waited 15 minutes for the Tech Wax to dry and then came back with a clean Supreme Shine Microfiber and wiped off all the Tech Wax on the hood.

I had extremly light residue/streaks on the hand applied side while the side I did with the D.A came out perfect.

Try and go as thin as possible!! lol.

But I also had the advantage of it being a brand new car with no contamination and plus I clayed it and machine polished out the paint.

When is the last time you clayed your hood?

Okay Shane. I wouldn't have thought you would be having any kind of bother here,as I've already seen your work in the past and you know what you're doing. So i wouldn't have doubted your technique.

It just seems odd to me,that this only happens on one part of the car on more than one occasion using different Meguiar's products. If it was one product, okay. But more than one is odd.
