OK, mainly, what i need to know is what speeds to work which products in with and for how long.

3 step (Compound 1, Compound 2 , LSP)

Most of us work compounds and cleaner/polishes at speed 5 and apply LSP at speed 2-3. Working time for compounds will depend on what the compound is, type of paint and how bad your defects are. Best to do a test spot. Here is a good write-up for #80 by Mike Phillips.

In addition to the great info found in the thread mentioned above on direction / pressure, here are some good guidelines for speed...

Paint cleaners / compounds / swirl removers 3 - 5 on the speed dial...

LSP's 1 - 3 on the speed dial

We also added a decal on top of the machine with these same suggestions

M07 is a pure polish containing no abrasives, thus you do not need to forcefully spread it over the paint over and over to be effective. It simply needs to be evenly spread across the surface once, and then removed.

Just think of it this way, anything that needs to be forced against the paint to try and remove actual paint (compounds and abrasive polishes) will need speeds 3 and above, and anything that is simply being spread over the surface (Pure polish like M07, waxes) can be done with speeds up to 3.
