My driveway never gets any shade until the sun is completely set. I started this evening at 8:30 and was done by 9:30.

It's a bit cooler, no neighbors buggin' me, and I can take my time with washing, rinsing and particularly drying. An ounce of prevention...

The neighbors think I'm nuts, but my car's finish is worth it.

I guess the grit guards are helpful, though I honestly don't know if they really work. What I do think is important is to hose one's wash mitt frequently. Wiping the mitt on the grit guard does not always get rid of the dirt and grit that gets trapped in the mitt.

As far as preventing the water spots, that will come from rinsing the car so the water doesn't dry, working in as cool an environment as possible, working quickly.

If your water was very bad, very hard, that is when people start looking into other measures, like water filters.

Yeah, but don't ya' wish you'd have patented it? Must cost all of 62 cents to make.

I tried fabricating one myself with limited success . I use that one in my soap bucket.

I used the Grit Guard for the first time last night on a not so dirty vehicle and didn't notice any residue, but for ten bucks you can't argue with the physics behind it, and if it saves just one scratch or swirl pattern, it's definitely worth the price. For the peace of mind at least.
