Re: Finger nail used / how to buff a way

    Tim,

SwirlX and ScratchX use Meguiar's new Super Micro Abrasive Technology (SMAT) and where you use it will be the shiniest paint on your car. In This case I would go with SwirlX as it has a little less cut than ScratchX. The SMAT in SwirlX will let you control the amount of paint you remove and still provide a finish ready for waxing.

    1. By a quality foam application pad
    2. Buy SwirlX
    3. Buy a quality Microfiber Towel.

    4. Shake up the SwirlX and place a small amount of SwirlX on the pad. Rub back and forth over the mark using medium pressure at first for about 30 seconds, wipe the area gingerly with the MF to remove the residue and inspect. If the mark is gone, add some wax and your done, if not repeat the process and add more pressure and/or time if you feel it necessary.

    5. Report back here and let us know how it went.

Note: I have heard of marring occurring by people who used microfiber pads instead of of the soft form applicator pads. So if you can't find foam applicator pad at any local stores order some online.

    Good luck,

    Mike

That sounds scary to me it removes paint? Ouch.

And also it will be shiner than the rest of the car? Is there a way to avoid this? I do not want it to be zeroed in on. I want it to blend in with the rest.

      Thanks

        Tim,

The polished area will blend in with the rest of the car. I was trying to alleviate your worries about causing more damage to the paint.

As for your concern about removing paint. You need to read this thread.

Ok, I think it is only at clear coat level or less. Still can not understand how a fingernail can leave a mark like this that you can not just wax/hand buff out easily.

I noticed on my friends Black Hyundai Sante Fe that i could sratch the paint with my fingernail, I was like "wow", Wonder if it is like that on all paints, just easier to see on the blacks and darker colors?

I wiped off some bird poop that was on a friends black scion, was dried on there hard, i sprayed some UQD on it and did not wait long enough to dwell and as I was wiping it off with a mf towel it left some slight hairline scratches. I used Megs D151 paint reconditioning cream on the area. Took the scratches away and left some protection on it.

            Good stuff

The ease that your paint will mar or scratch is something you'll have to take up with the manufacturer.

Don't worry about the amount of paint you have to remove to fix this because in your case it is microscopic. Todays paints are very easy to mar and scratch but are correctable with the right products (read Meguiar's) and procedures.
