  • Maintaining after Detailing

Hello All . I first would like to say thank you for all the valuable information given in all the forums and all the wealth of this information has helped rookie detailers like myself so greatly .
Anyhow I detailed a recently purchased a 2006 BMW X5 Jet Black . I use the following for washing through waxing

    Washing ...... Megs Gold

Used Clay Bar ( white ) ... I dont think the truck has ever been clayed before

    Cleaner / Polish .... Scratch 2.0

    Tech Wax 2.0 ( put 2 light coats )

My question ... using UQD and / or UQW ... How often should I be using this ? I mean is this a daily process or whenever it it needed ? And also should I been using both of these or just one of them is fine? Thanks for your answers in advance ...

    Re: Maintaining after Detailing

    1. Wash - Good, remember 2 buckets, quality towels, sponges, etc.

    2. Clay - Good

    3. Clean/Polish - You might like to switch to SwirlX in the future, if the ScratchX solves your swirls.

    4. Wax - Good

    5. Maintain - I like to use the UQW after washing. It needs to be used on a clean surface. The UQD is more for bird droppings, hard water drops, etc. Or, you could use it every day after you drive, but you will go though a lot of it that way.

Of course you can use UQD, followed by UQW if you were doing daily wipedowns.

The QD products are for light dust though, so going more than a day with a daily driver will probably put too much grime on the paint for the QD.

Thanks for the advice , and I will try the SwirlX next time as the Scratch2.0 didnt quite take out all the swirls. May I ask how often do you wash your car and what do you use to maintain the finish?

ScratchX 2.0 actually has more cut than SwirlX, so if you need something more aggressive, you'll need to step up to Ultimate Compound. As for using UQD, some people use it every day but if you have dark paint, the best rule of thumb is to touch your finish as little as possible. I have a navy blue sedan that I quick detail 2-3 times a week. Just remember when applying any quick detailer, the idea is to mist the spray over the finish, wick away the mist with a folder microfiber towel in straight lines (I roll the leading edge of the towel slightly up) then follow up with a serpentine wiping motion to polish the paint.

I tend to wash every week or two, and I use UQW after washing as much as possible. UQD if I am really in a hurry.

Check out this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

I agree with ClearlyCoated that for black cars the best rule is to touch the finish as infrequently as possible. I do not always obey this rule--such is my pathology--but I think the rule is sound.

If you like the look that UQW gives, then by all means use it after every wash. It is so darn easy to apply and will help to maintain the NXT.

            Cheers,
            Al

              Re: Maintaining after Detailing

I just picked up a bottle of UQD and UQW as it was a Manager's Special sale for $5.99 ... anyhow I used the UQD afterwards and the black looks deeper and rich looking ... Bar none Meg products are the best out in the market . With that said , I am officially hooked and addicted to detailing now !

                    Re: Maintaining after Detailing

                    UQD is for maintance
UQW is a WAX as in "wax your car with it"
Use UQD to maintaine your "WAX"

                    Here's the description of both:
                    UQD
The most advanced high bead and deep gloss spray detailer! Meguiar’s®, the company that brought car enthusiasts the world’s first spray detailer, now introduces a revolutionary mist and wipe product that works like a spray detailer and enhances wax protection. This totally unique formula represents a significant breakthrough in technology that has even our eyes popping! Through the use of new Hydrophobic Polymer Technology™, Meguiar’s has created a spray detailer that actually repels water, withstands multiple car washes, and adds additional protection to your finish. The secret lies in the high level of surface tension created when these revolutionary polymers react. The result is a slicker, darker surface and incredible water beading! You will feel your towel almost float across the surface. The gentle, high lubricity formula is safe on all paint types including the latest clear coats and can be used daily to remove loose contaminants, dust and grime to keep your car looking its absolute best. It’s so easy, you can detail a full size car in less than 10 minutes!
                    UQW:
Meguiar's® Ultimate Quik Wax is the fastest way to a dazzling, show-car shine! Featuring Meguiar's Hydrophobic Polymer Technology™, it makes paint come alive with a deep, wet-look shine you would only expect from liquid or paste waxes. Our new technology leaves no white residue on plastic and trim, and it can even be applied in direct sunlight! Simply mist on and wipe off. So fast and easy that you can wax your entire car in just minutes! The protection and relentless water beading, however, lasts for weeks.

Even at $5.99 each,I'd be laughing!

When I said 16€'s,that was with a little discount because I buy quite a lot from his shop.Should've been 19.99€'s.

You've got a good finish to start with. Don't preoccupy yourself with time.Doing a full detail can take quite a bit of time.Just as an example.I took out a couple of scuffs and scratches from the top surface of my bumper this evening.Took about an hour or so....By the time you wash,dry,clay,polish,wax............

                        good luck with your work!

Hey Eddie ... quick question ... I've noticed after letting my car settle after waxing ... and then a few days later I used UQD and UQW ... I notice dust get attracted to the hood of my car ... now I dont know if it is because the color of my car which is deep black causes these dust or stuff to stand out or does the wax or the UQD attracts theses dust ... anyhow it's no big deal since I'd just get a microfiber to wipe them off ... Just wondering if you have this minor problem since you have the same color.
