  • Meg's odor eliminator

I got some megs odor eliminator today for my new magnum. it has a bit of a smoke and cologne smell in it.

I plan to give the interior a solid bath and cleaning then spray it down with the odor eliminator.

my question is this....can i spray this stuff on the headliner? If it gets on the leather will it stain it at all?

I will spray the headliner in small sections and wipe up any overspray on the leather

Also, has anyone used this stuff and how well does it work. any other products to reccomend?

I have only used it as a general freshener, not on a specific odor.

I wouldnt really try to saturate anything with it.

As far as a headliner, I would be more inclined to lightly dab across it with APC, then give an overall spray from a distance with the Odor Eliminator.

I would also look into the foot wells more, same kind of idea.

And if you use a lot of it, it will reek at first, but it goes away, esp if you can let it air out.

How did it perform? Did it rid the car of the bad smell for good?

I just sprayed it in general as a freshener, not really against any odor.

I've used it and gotten rid of some odors. The headliner should be fine as long as it isn't soaked in it. I'd spray the car down good, then wipe down the leather with the spray cleaner/conditioner as a touch up.

...I wouldn't spray the odor eliminator on the leather's surface. Spraying the carpeted surfaces liberally with it, however, is fine as long as you don't soak anything with it. Use a good leather cleaner/conditioner on the seats and clean and dress all vinyl/plastic surfaces. Set the A/C on "recirculate" and let the Odor Elimiantor work for a good 5 minutes before shutting it down. Allow the car to sit overnight and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in the morning.

If a strong odor persists, there may be other factors at work (standing water, mold, mildew, cabin filter, etc.).

Oh yeah, agreed on the vents. Forgot about those. I spray it in through the air intake vents on the cowl, after spraying the inside, with the heater on recirculate then close everything up and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Helps get rid of odors coming from the vents.

The vents are a must! yesterday I shampooed the interior. What a big car!! The shampooing took the smell away by at least 40%.
Today will be the application of odor eliminator and I'll put it to the test!
I was not planning on spraying OE on the leather....

Remember what the issue is here....a smoker. Cigarette smoke contains tars and these tars adhere to ALL interior surfaces (leather, plastic, vinyl, glass, etc). You need to clean and dress everything inside that car before trying the Odor Eliminator and expecting great results.

Anything porous will have tar contamination. The cologne smell is likely the previous owner's attempt at odor control or he's a huge Guido...

Anyway, clean and dress the leather seats with a good cleaner/protectant. Wipe down all the vinyl/plastic surfaces and then dress them. Make sure you get into every place your hand can reach because, believe me, the smoke sure did. That means inside the glove box...up under the dash...etc.

When all this is done, treat the air vents as I suggested and you should be about 75 to 80% better depending on how hardcore of a smoker he was. I have detailed cars in which headliners had to be removed and treated, center consoles lifted to vacuum ash and cleanse underneath, ozone generators used, etc.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out...

                      Re: Meg's odor eliminator

Ok, I got her all done! as stated above I shampooed the entire interior. I used an exractor, bucket of wash soap, hand brush, toothbrush, air hose, and many many towels. I used simple green as a cleaner, M40 on the vinyl, and megs GC leather conditioner on the seats.

I wiped the headliner down by spraying simple green on towel and wiping the headliner using the toothbrush when needed.

this thing was nasty, when i sprayed the white pillars or any pillar for that matter, the yellow tar just rolled down. anyhow it all cleaned up for good. heres some pics, no befores.

                        Re: Meg's odor eliminator

The only odor I can smell now is M40 and a hint of the GUIDO's colgne. the odor eliminator worked much better than expected! I've taken this car to everyone who smelled it prior to the cleaning and they say they smell no smoke at all. All the new people I show it to agree and a friend today said it smelled like a new car!!

I sprayed the odor eliminator pretty much anywhere and everywhere I could reach it into or onto, then I did a second application and juiced up the A/C full tilt.

I cant believe the OE was only $3.49!! sitting next to products for over $10 that I bet wouldn't have worked.
                        Thanks everyone!

Not all of us Guido's smell :p

Glad to hear it worked for you! I love that stuff! I use OE every other month or so, just because. Any smell that may have gotten anywhere, stays gone! My local K-Mart had them on clearance a while ago at $1 each. I almost bought about 10, lol.

Yeah, QID plus one squirt of OE every few months solves most "regular" problems...

i wish the OE had a slight scent of either NXT2.0 or endurance.. that would be great ;]
