First off, let me state that I would estimate I've read 90% of the posts regarding the techniques and methods of cleaning microfiber towels. So far I've used either liquid tide or chemical guys microfiber rejuvinator cleaning concentrate.
The source of my confusion is this: I have a rubbermaid tote full of supreme shine microfibers, some which are the "older" style with the satin edging, and some are brand new ones that I just purchased. What I'm finding is that depending on the towel I grab, some are better at absorbing liquid better than others. For example, I find I have to use two towels, one in each hand to dry a panel. The first towel kind of smears the water around, and the second towel pulls the streaked water off the surface leaving it dry. Sometimes it takes a third towel if the first two don't pick the water up. What really surprised me when I washed the truck tonight was when I grabbed one of the new SS which was fresh out of the package but had been washed once with Tide was that it had so much "bite" it wouldn't slide across the surface of my truck. I should also state that I'm not yet using the "flood" method of rinsing - when I start to dry a panel it tends to have quite a bit of water on it (especially the hood and roof)
Is it possible that there is that much difference between the old towels and the new? Could it also be possible that I've somehow contaminated the old SS's with the satin edging?
