  • Confused: Is there a list anywhere?

I am really new to this line, but it seems to be highly respected in the industry and among car clubs. I have a 1968 and a 1995 Corvette with swirl marks, a few scratches, etc. I am having two problems reading the forum comments. First, just what is light, medium and heavy with regard to the swirls and/or scratches.

Second, I have read over 50 different product names/labels/numbers, (M-80, M-83, 101, 102, M49, etc, etc, etc), but these designators mean nothing to me. They all must be in some hyarchy order of some kind, by use and agressiveness, but I cannot correlate between them. Is there any list anywhere showing in pecking order what products are available for use, what they are used for and their relationship to each other? I'm sure there are specific reasons why Meguire's makes so many, as it would be a waste to market 15 products under different names that all do the same thing.

        Welcome to MOL!!

The numbers you're referencing are simply part numbers in the Professional Mirror Glaze line and are not indicators of a products strength or intended use. It may seem that many products overlap each other and that's actually quite true, but it is not without reason. All of the Mirror Glaze products have been designed primarily for body shop or similar use and in the pro arena there are many, many variable presented when working on paint. Just as a good auto mechanic has a wide variety of tools that essentially do the same thing, a body shop or detailer needs various tools to accomplish their task. There just isn't one single product that works equally well on all paint systems and all application methods.

Reading through the forums here at MOL, asking questions, and learning what has worked for others on vehicles similar to yours will help you sort through things. You'll ultimately find that you can dial in a small handful of products that will accomplish what you're after with your vehicles and you won't need to have two dozen bottles of various items on hand.
