Re: NXT 2.0, under 3M Performance Finish?
(Mike Phillips, I had already seen your how to posts. I wasn't worried about the application, I was mostly wondering if anyone else has tried this, and if not let everyone know I was)
Alright guys, I took longer than I said, but good news: I did two cars, one light, one dark, so more info
Basic use:
On the onyx black 2009 Mazda6:
It was difficult to take off(think Klasse SG), plenty of streaking. BUT, a very light mist of UQD and a few swipes of a Microfiber cloth it took care of that. About the "do not let product haze" warning....this was strange, if you take it off as soon as you apply, there is no to little streaking. I let a few very small patches haze over just to see....and the wax removed just fine....but anything in between, and it streaked more than Will Ferrell in Old School.
On the Classic Silver Metallic 2009 Corolla S:
Streaking was not noticeable, besides the light color of the paint, this may be because I was getting better at the process as this was the second try.
FOLLOW the directions of doing one panel at a time....in fact, I'd recommend only doing HALF a panel at a time(unless you want to play with the fire of going against directions, letting it haze, and encounter something that I didn't)
Appearance:
There was no big or distinct change in paint clarity or appearance, no noticeable change on Silver Corolla, but the Black Mazda seems SLIGHTLY darker/deeper(YOu can't tell anything is different in the picture). Some areas seemed to have a slight haze, but after the above mentioned use of UQD, all was well.
Conclusion:
With the gains you get in look from NXT, I wasn't expecting much if any gains from PF....all I was worried about was it making it look worse, so I am satisfied with how it turned out. It was twice the work at least of applying and removing NXT, but if it lasts 3x longer, I guess it'll be worth it....
It seems, IMO, the products may compliment each other well as long as PF holds up it's end of the bargain of being very durable, which is the whole reason I bought it......people say it is!
IF you have a light colored car, go for it, if you have a dark colored car, bring Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer or lots of elbow grease)
In THIS PIC, can you see the difference?:
the left half of the bumper is NXT & PF, the RIGHT half is NXT only(NOT trunk, hadn't done it yet when I took this, like it matter anyway)
