Oops, don't know what happened, it was there after I posted it. Now it doesn't work for me either. And I only get 2 results from a new search. The web gremlins must be at it again.

Did you clean the windshield before you clayed?
Before I clayed, the car was washed and moved inside the garage.

And after all this, my wax job went bad somehow. The nxt 2 was completely uncooperative and for a very difficult application. It had to be my applicator pad from Autozone. They ****, but where else can I get some locally? Grrrr.

So, the windows, terrible water spots using the brand new water softener, and a bad wax. Its looking like I have to do a complete re-do in the coming days.

Is it a water softener or a water filter? Water softeners usually add sodium to the water to lower the acidity. Not a good idea for a car wash. Water filters will remove contaminants and some with the proper design will eliminate minerals. That would work for a car wash. Both need to be flushed before use.

The word holograms as it is is used in the detailing world is a word used to describe the shimmer/3D looking effect from the circular scratches instilled using a rotary buffer which usually show up in some type of zig-zag pattern following the direction the person moved the rotary buffer over the paint. The are also referred to as, Rotary Buffer Swirls or Rotary Buffer Trails.

          They look like this,

          Holograms or Rotary Buffer Swirls

This is what scratches in glass looks like,

Using a rotary buffer and an abrasive glass polishing compound and pushing as hard as I could within reason, I could not remove these scratches but nor did I instill any. So it's hard to believe rubbing detailing clay over glass by hand would put scratches into the glass let alone holograms. If it did, it would mean your clay was contaminated with something more abrasive that what the clay is to start with.

It's probably smudges like mentioned by others and you should be able to remove the smudges using a quality glass cleaner and s clean cloth.

This won't remedy the existing situation, but it might help those who clay glass in the future...Be sure to spray the claybar itself with QD, as well as the surface you're claying. I remember my first time with the Clay Kit, although I used great amounts of lube on a freshly-washed car, I didn't lube the clay itself, and ended up with horrendous clay streaks across the paint that could only be removed by masking the stuff with a few coats of wax. I haven't found an instruction video or guide (or even the claybar kit's box itself) that actually mentions to spray the claybar, too. I almost boycotted Meguiars for life that day, but then I gave it a 2nd try and boy do I love claying & Meg's now ! Best of luck.
