Help! Clayed windshield- now I have holograms...

So I read on here that it was ok to clay windows. I did so with the windsheild and now I have terrible holograms in it. How so I fix this?

I'm outside in the driveway so try to be quick! Thanks!

Ps I used megs smooth surface kit.

Are you sure they're holograms not just smearing? It's pretty hard to cause holograms on paint let alone glass by claying.

Did you use the spray detailer included in the box?

Try spraying the window down with a window cleaner and cleaning it in case its just smearing.

Yes I used the quick detailer included in the box.

It's a hologram. You look at it and see smeary reflections in another part of the glass. Glass cleaner isn't fixing it.

Just did the drivers side. It's bad. And everything was fine before.

Email the pics to yourself from the iPhone, then upload them.

I won't say it's impossible, but it is really, really difficult to scratch glass with clay. Was the windshield covered in sand?

Without seeing it, my best guess would be residue from the detailer and the clay. Try a little dish soap in water to wash the windshield with a clean towel.

Sounds like QD residue, which is expected. Nxt glass cleaner always seems ot get it right off though.

Dawn is a good option.

Maybe a lot of QD dried on you, and some more would re-dissolve it. Just slightly dampen a cloth, and wipe it around, then try the glass cleaner right after.

I just clayed the frond windshield on a Toyota yesterday and had smeary marks left afterwards. But they always come off after I do the final cleaning with Stoners Invisible Glass.

You might also try giving the glass a wipe with denatured alcohol.

You need to use a high quality glass cleaner such as:

Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate, or NXT Glass Cleaner

There aren't any holograms in your glass It's just smearing from the QD

Water seemed to mostly get through it.

Tried out my new water softener that goes online of the hose.

I thought it was working until I tried to clean the glass after the wash. HORRIBLE spots.. The kind that don't come up. I tried claying with my glass cleaner (Stoners invisible glass) and it helped but only slightly. I don't know what I'm going to do to get the spots off. They are really, really bad.

What a terrible day.

You can use a compound or polish to take the water spots off. Megs #4 works the best. Megs #80 works well too. Do a search for 'water spots' on the forum, you'll get 100's of threads.

Relax, don't sweat it. It's nearly impossible to damage glass without very hard abrasives to scratch the glass, paint is another story, but glass is some hard stuff. You just need to refine your technique and learn from your mistakes. Keep reading the forum and asking questions. Most of what you will experience has been experienced by someone here. Just keep reading and you will avoid some of our mistakes.

There is virtually no way you could cause holograms on glass by hand with a clay bar. Even then, the only way would be if you had incredibly specific and incredibly rare/unique glass cutting materials IN your clay bar.

You are experiencing residue and streaking. Are you working in the sun?

Are you 100% sure your towels are not contaminated? (Wax, other residue, fabric softener, etc).

I say try again with a fresh towel and wiping with that alone. Still no luck, then try glass cleaners.

Like my suggestions above, I agree with Mark here 100%. There is almost no way you hologramed a glass windshield by claying.

Did you clean the windshield before you clayed?
