    Re: california duster

My friend just ordered for me the Premium Car Duster Kit, it comes with the wood handle duster and the mini duster. Price is reasonable, $20, plus $5.95 for shipping. I should get it in 1-2 weeks.

I cannot find it in Toronto at all. They do sell some kind of California Duster in the local Canadian Tire but they look kind of cheap and it costs $25 CAN!

      Re: california duster

      Two tips;

I found if I hold the duster down at my side after each panel, and rapidly twist my wrist it sort of "snaps" the yarn and makes it a lot easier than trying to just shake it out up and down.

The paraffin will leave harmless spots of your finish for quite a few uses until it starts getting "dirty looking" and the excess paraffin finally starts to wear off. You can speed up this process by vigorously buffing the mop with a terry cloth towel. I also used it for general household dusting and this also helped wear off the excess paraffin.

Be Advised: The graphic which your link leads me to shows the much inferior plastic handled duster with the much thinner mop strands. However, if you're getting the wooden handled version that will have the heavier mop head. Might wanna check. That's an excellant price for both mops!

        Re: California Duster

I received my California duster with the wood handle 2-3 weeks ago. This one is definitely better than the one in Canadian Tire. While the Meguaire's duster (my friend) is more heavy, the Meguaire's handle is more robust.

I use the duster almost everyday before leaving for work. Even when it rains, the car is not dirty at all. After a drive in the rain, I would just wipe down the car with a MF and the car looks great again. Sometimes I would rinse the panels behind the wheels if they get too dirty.

What about the initial oil/parafin streaks? (Re: california duster)

Others here have said similar thing. Should I be concerned about the oil/parafin initially coming off on the car? Does it affect the finish? What do you do, just wipe the finish with a MF after the initial dusting(s) ?

It won't harm a thing; it's merely annoying as it leaves paraffin smudges where you tend to hesitate.

To speed up my breaking in period, I took a clean bath towel and rubbed the mop 'til my arms wore out. It helps quite a bit, but it's still gonna smudge 'til it gets slightly brown and funky looking. Since my wife still works and I'm Mr. Mom around here, I also used it for general household dusting and this helped speed up the process also.

I use one for the body, one for the wheels! They work great!

I use a quick wipe with UQD to remove the parifin smudges. Not usre if the instructions still state to do this but on older Calif. Dusters it said to lay it on newspaper in the sun for 24 -36 hours to remove the excess parifin. I did that and it worked fine. I turned the duster several times during this process.

When you sweep the dash, all it does is move the dust particles elsewhere, but technically still in the car. However, if you use it for the exterior, then you can be pretty certain it's not going to stay on your car.

I plan to buy the mini duster also. What do you mean that it would only move the dust on the dash? I thought the mini duster will pick up the dust and you will then shake them off

I love my duster. Probably 6 years old and still suckin' dust!

I have a mini duster, and it works decent. It isn't impregnated with the same chemicals as the larger one (could just be the brand I bought) but it's great for the dash... I spray it a couple of times with QDI and it works great!

Sorry Boba, that's not true. My interior duster "picks up" the dust just like the exterior duster does. You're really not shaking much off of these dusters when you shake them. They are intended to pick up and hold the dust away from your car. They are NOT intended to be a broom.

Yes you're right, it'll remove it not move it. My mistake

How do you use one of these dusters on the side of the vehicle without applying too much pressure?

Just glide it across the surface, the paraffin wax in the duster's strands will pick up the dust from the paint. Just light sweeping motions across the surface, finish it off with a quick detailer.

I love my Ca.duster and use it for my own vehicle as well as customers .

I never use it if a vehicle is too dirty ,only dusty. I never use any pressure either ,just use very lightly ,and never seen any scratches yet.

Right or wrong, if I pick up to many contaminants I will vacume them out of the duster with my shop vac.
