  • tape recommadations

Going to tackle my first DA job probably at the end of April and have been acquiring the goods up to now for this job, what is the tape people are using to tape off a vehicles high points prior to a DA job, have seen on the forum links that the tape was the blue painters tape that is low adhesive that one would use to mask off trim or wood work in the interior of ones home but have also come across some tape at a local lordcos in the bodywork section that could do the job but more money for that stuff and is there that much of a difference to justify the expense, thxs for your time and effort all

I agree with the 3M Blue painters tape. It is available in different widths. Get some in the different widths and it will speed up your process. Good luck.

You cant go wrong with 3m blue. On certain areas Ill use green because of left over water likes to make the blue type less sticky and come off.

Exactly why I use it. Since it was designed specifically for automotive paint & body uses, the adhesive is resistant to water/product saturation without losing adhesion yet comes off clean. I've used the blue as well and like it, too...the variable sizes are a lifesaver sometimes.

I just ordered my DA (G110) and I think that I am going to have to pick up some tape too.

You guys are great one here. I have never found a place where people are so knowledgeable and nice.

                    Gold painters tape!

I have gold, green, and blue. Gold is one expensive tape though

I like the blue 3M painters tape. I would encourage using 3M brand tape. I tried using "generic" Wal-mart brand blue painters tape and it did not work as well as the 3M tape.

I sure am glad to finally learn the difference between the blue and the green tape. Tx!

Anyone else ever get staining on trim from 3m Blue tape/ I have noticed it on several occasions on some of the newer black plastic that is smooth (not pebble). It doesn't exactly wipe off with a little QD either...

In my experience, I have found the 3M green tape works better than the blue tape. The problem I have noticed with the blue tape is that it comes off way too easily. When I am polishing a panel close to rubber trim that was masked off with the blue tape, running the buffer slightly over the blue tape makes it come off. If I am not mistaken, the blue tape is designed to be removed easily after 14 days, and the green tape is designed to be removed after 3 days, therefore you should not have any issues removing the green tape and it should not leave any residue behind.

This is the "best" tape I've used
                              It's a secret! shhhhhhh....
It's Vinyl, stretches around curves, water proof and very durable
                              But it's not available yet
I got to use it at a TNG

Green tape is my favorite right now
It's cheaper then Blue by 3 bucks, holds better and withstands allot of ABUSE
Won't come off as easily as blue

I bought this cheap tape to see what it could do
                              It stinks! has no adhesion
Scotch tape would have worked better!

Here's all three, you can see the difference in the thickness
