    Re: First Experience with Clay

The first time I used clay I was shocked. It was a brand new car that I had for about a month. The paint look great but after using clay it was then slippery smooth. The clay pulled out a lot of crud that I did not even know was there.

The car maybe new, but think were its been sitting before you bought it. Not inside I bet.

Hey anyone want to post a link to those videos mentioned it would be nice.

Also OP, did you clay the windshield as well? IIRC I've seen on here that it's also good to do. If anyone can confirm TIA.

To all who mentioned the video, here ya go.....It's just that easy.....

Also, I did not clay the windshied, it was already smooth as glass! I clean it every week or so with a product called "Invisable Glass" that seems to work very well inside and out. I follow that up every month or two with a double coat of RainX.

No, claying will not remove swirls. It will only remove bonded contaminants. You will need to follow up with a designated paint cleaner like Ultimate Compound, Scratch X 2.0, Swirl X, or DC1 in order to remove swirls. But since clay bars and paint cleaners do different things, you will want to use both. Don't forget to wax afterwards!

You should move to the US and get it at basically half price. In a couple of years we'll be paying double for it. Oh well!

I know what you mean, I clayed the first time this past Friday and am just amazed of the results. Got the Meg. Clay Kit from ADS and on the only nice day for a few days I decided to go and detail the exterior of the truck. The paink kind of felt a little rough and once i started claying just the right front fender I quickly found out about what people have said happens while claying with the rough feel at first then the clay gliding on the smooth paint when it has cleaned it of the contaminates and such. Took about a half of an hour to do the whole truck roof to bottom and just after the claying I was impressed. I then used the Steps 1 and 2 of the deep crystal method topped off with NXT 2.0 paste and am just amazed with the glass like finish to the paint... Gotta love March in PA Rain today, Snow tonight, 42 degrees tomorrow and 69 on tuesday.... haha But all in all very nice results. I love the clay bar now and ill add it to every detail.
