its supposed to be safe i thin the site says is a high ph non acid cleaner.

You can give this a try for chrome rims. For a thorough clean and to protect your brakes, remove your wheels. Let us know what you end up doing and take some before and after pictures if you can.

I have read that WD-40 is good to use along with light steel wool.
Says it's good for calipers and brake dust.
I haven't tried this so can't vouch personally.

A while back I had to detail a Mazda protege. Worse case of brake dust I ever encountered. I sprayed the rims with super degreaser, let it dwellfor a few minutes. Agitated with a brush, rinsed. The owner when he came to pick up his car said " I have never seen the wheels and tires look like this. There is actually printing on the tires". So I would give the super degreaser a try.

It was diluted about 8:1.

I would Get Meguiar's All Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. It works really well and is safe on all wheels Spray it on, Lightly scrub and let it sit, hose off. If that doesn't work than clay them. But remember not to use that clay again on your paint

+1 on that one, meg's wheel cleaner is by far THE BEST wheel cleaner I have ever used. I let it soak on my dirty brake calipers for a few mins and it rinsed off CLEAN.... WITHOUT any scrubbing...
