  • Stubborn Brake Dust

I have a 2008 Ford F-150 with the chrome aluminum wheels. I neglected to clean it for a bit (weather was too cold) and now after I have cleaned the wheels there is still brake dust that doesn't want to come off. It's almost like little speckled rust spots. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean this. Thanks

Have you tried claying the wheels yet?

No, I haven't tried claying the wheels yet. That's a good idea. I'll definately try it.

What product you used to clean your wheel?

I just used the Mequire's Gold Class Car Wash and a wash mit to wash the entire truck as well as the wheels. I didn't use any kind of wheel cleaner. Usually the soap alone does a good job of getting it all off. I just hadn't washed my truck in a while because of the weather and the dust built up. When i washed my wheels there were the little speckles of brake dust left. I can't even scratch it off with my fingernail. Not sure if my wheel has been damaged or if it's just stubborn.

You can mist Super Degreaser to soak it for few minutes, if really can't remove it then as Colonel said u have to clay it. Hope these help.

If I were to clay bar the wheel, would I use the quick detailer that usually comes w/the claybar kit or should I use some other lubricant?

I would Get Meguiar's All Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. It works really well and is safe on all wheels Spray it on, Lightly scrub and let it sit, hose off. If that doesn't work than clay them. But remember not to use that clay again on your paint

Wheel cleaner and an old toothbrush would probably take most of that stubborn brake dust off.

I be careful with the all wheel cleaner on some brake parts though. It hurt my calipers on one of my cars before I stopped and switched to the least aggressive wheel cleaner.

If you try it you should tell us how it worked.
It looks fine, but I would not be surprised if it is a "scam" like ShamWOW.
